500 ML bottle. All malts in this one, with nary a hop making an appearance. Incredible toffee aroma. Lots of bitterness.

Bottled. A clear dark amber beer with a medium head. The aroma is fruity with a hint of roast. The flavour has notes of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium body, very drinkable, it ends on a good and long bitterness. Very balanced, one of the better examples of this style.

Bottle. Cherry aroma, light hops. Pours a dark red-brown with a thick bubbly brown head. Malty with good body. Opens sweet and fades into a well-established hop finish with cherry and caramel notes. Smoke interplays with light citrus. Very well brewed beer.

New Beer Distributors, NY 16.9 oz ($5): Pours a darkish amber color with a short-lived creamy off-white head; however, the remnants of said head linger for quite a whiles. Aroma is pleasant, hops are most upfront, followed by an underflying fruitiness. Of course tasty malts are present. Anyway, the taste of this beer is one reminiscent of many IPAs. Hops are a strong force, especially for a British beer, but are very well balanced with the malts. Nicely bitter, but exactly enough that it doesn’t impede repeated sips. When I drink beers like this I think that this is exactly what I would a beer to taste, if I were to only have to drink one beer. Quality stuff.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 mgermani (932) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 10, 2007
Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin off-white head with good lace. Aroma of dried fruit and slightly skunky hops (slightly septic?) Wonderful roasty flavour, flavouring hops come in right away and steal the show - very nutty and dry. Slightly skunky, again "septic" flavour, but the crystal malt overcomes any skunkiness in the aftertaste, and it’s nothing but the Goldings and the toffee-nuttiness to finish - very very dry. High carbonation causes a foaming in the mouth, giving it a bit of a cream body. Very nice beer, very very dry. This would be better if fresh, but I’ll try to take that into account. Many thanks to Thaichile for the bottle!

Finally found one in date, 21st November 2007, finally! Fantastic nose; nutty and coffee-like roasted malts, cooked apple, sherry, spice, alcohol, nice and big. Pours a cleanish bronze body with a billowing offwhite head. Big lengthy palate, clinging to mouth, slight sourness which is strangly welcome. Rich flavour, plenty of coffee and nutty malts with some toffee sweetness, notes of port, Delicious apple, plum, dried fruits. Early sweetness is balanced with a lingering, dry, moderately high bitter finish, with a good amount of resiny, grassy hop flavour. An unbelievablely good English ale, a definate stand out, which was somehow unremarkable last time i tried it! Highly recommended!

Deep amber colour with creamy large head that lasts well. Rich mouthfeel. Taste has a lot of hops, fruity and slighty spicy notes. Quite bitter. Nice floral hoppy smell. Dry, bitterish aftertaste.
