4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 wabeerman (13) - Washington, USA - APR 3, 2011
This is such q wonderful completely satisfying beer. Has to be one of the finest crafted beers in the world. Rich and malty, but has just enough alcohol to transform this into a very pleasing dry finish that lingers on. WOW!
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 5, 2007
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2009 Had bottle of this beer in Cambridge, UK in Dec 2006. Clear copper-ruby with a one-finger head that leaves a nice frosting. Aroma of spicy toffee cake with orange zest. Flavor is earthy caramel with orange, toasted nut, and some spicy apple and wood. Just enough roast to give a nice coffee-cocoa, orange and oak aftertaste. Medium body is smooth, slightly watery in a good-drinkable way and has a dry finish. The best British beer I found in two weeks in England! Apr 2008 update: bottle purchased in Atlanta, even better than I remembered, upped from 4.2 to 4.6
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 rangerred (203) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - OCT 17, 2011
Poured out of a 500ml bottle into an english pint.
Pours a dark copper/ruby with a 2 finger off-white head. Excellent head retention and lacing.
Smells of caramel and dried fruit, possibly some wood.
Taste is much like the smell. Slightly stronger woodsy notes with a caramel and toffee. A slightly drying finish along with a soft bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium to full but does not impede drinkability
Overall a wonderful beer and an excellent example of the style. The perfect choice for a cool fall evening.

This is fantastic stuff. Rich, flavorful, ale-y fruit-y-ness. A little butterscotch. Hop levels were nice. Serving: Bottle

Complex, caramel, chocolate, nuts, fruits? Enjoyable to drink because of its complexity.

A near-perfect beer. Incredibly full of flavour, bursting with chocolate, coffee and burnt caramel. This is a pioneering brew which Fullers should be proud of, and it has been copied by brewers around the world. A bottle-conditioned craft brew long before such things became fashionable. It is perfectly balanced, with a full dark hop flavour which coats the tongue with rich velvety champagne-like texture. A beer without equal, and for me a desert-island beer which I insist that my corner shop has in stock!

Fruity, bitter and slightly sour. Flavorful and complex without affecting sweetness. A wonderful taste experience!
