4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 iwantalambic (1473) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - DEC 4, 2004
1 pt. 2.6 fl. oz. (Best before: 19 OCT 2005, sampled 4 DEC 2004): hazed copper, with a modest tan foam that leaves sticky lacing all over the pint glass…Sticky alcohol aroma; noticeable sugar coated raisins, toasted grain, mild black pepper, burnt sugar and wet hop flowers. Nicely carbonated as evidenced by the tingling across the tongue and the very retentive cream. Slightly (surprising for me) spicy palate, with flavours ranging from a nicely striking bitterness up front to the long dry finish full of toffee, mashed red apples, hints of orange zest, and sticky honey. This one has breadth and depth. A great range of hop and malt flavour and a depth and complexity few can boast. Wouldn’t it be nice to have this one out of a beer engine?

A bottle of this and I’m a happy man. Perfect malty sweetness and a perfect bitter hop finish. Also a classy bottle.

Reddish brown with a short lived white head. Sour(Earthy?) aroma. Initial dry malt burst of flavor, a subtle sour aftertaste. Smooth and a joy to drink.

Deep ruby coloured ale with rich spicy, fruity aroma. Extremely malty, fruity (plums, grapes) and winey palate. Slightly bitter and again spicy finish. A classic.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2009 An extremely foamy head on this brew.Good amber color.Fruity aroma and very smooth.Great lacing!Has an aftertaste to it after it gets a little warm, but this one I like.I definitely would drink this brew again and again and again!
Re-Rate:Bottle. Poured a medium sized vanilla fizzy head that had poor retention, fast rising carbonation, spotty amounts of lacing, and an orange hue with a golden tint. The aroma was fruity, hoppy, sweet, malty, caramel, alcohol, and rich. The flavor was hoppy, caramel, malty, fruity, and the ABV came through although not overpowering. The mouthfeel was mostly smooth with a tinglyness and the body was light-medium. A well balanced beer with a warming sensation as it warmed up, worthy of a try, and a beer I will drink again if it comes my way.

Bottle, at the Old Joint Stock, Birmingham. Wow, yet another superb Fullers product - probably the best one I've tried so far. A dark, red/purple colour, with a stable head, and enticing musty aroma. A massive fruit hit grabs you on the first sip - strawberry and blackcurrant mainly, with a crisp jet of hops on the finish. Satisfying, full, thick beer, with a a hint of strength that lingers nicely in your throat.

Very sweet smelling ale, fruity. Dark ruby color. The flavor is initially sweet with some bitterness in the backend. More hop flavor and bitterness would help this beer.

Amber brown color and tan head. Malty and fruity aroma. Nice balance between malts and hops, a little sweet. Finish is somewhat dry but that's okay. Among Fullers better offerings. God how I love bottled conditioned ales (next to getting a great cask conditioned).
