Ljunkan (142), Karlstad, Sweden Jul 15, 2008 Aroma: tropical fruits, sweet malt, caramel, slightly hoppy.
Appearance: dark red, almost brown color with a nice white head.
Flavour: malty sweetness, caramel, sweet berries, aromatic flowery hops. Good bitterness.
Palate: smooth, clean, bitter finish.
Overall: an easy-to-drink-beer, with a very good maltiness. As the beer warms up it reveals a nice, flowery bitterness. Feels a bit like a "Barley Wine-light". Fuller’s never fails to impress me, but, honestly, this one took time to understand. Maybe it was a bit too cold first (even though it wasn’t that cold), but i don’t know. I think this is the best beer I’ve had from Fuller’s, even though the ESB and Porter are very good too.
Ober (400), Best, Netherlands Oct 7, 2008 An beautiful clear, dark red colored beer. With a thick beige foamed head. The aroma of roasted malts, caramel, a little coffee, a little chocolate and fruity. The taste of malts, bitter, sweet coffee and light chocolate, dark fruits like raisin. The aftertaste stay for awhile, gentle bitter and dry. kopher (123), USA Oct 6, 2008 Nice red-orange pour, thick foamy tan head.
Mild aroma, sweet, malty, biscuity, some roastedness/chocolate. Very sweet flavor, but not cloying and well balanced by some sublte bitterness. Alcohol is apparent. Mine was too cold, but it’s fairly dry.
Very high and doesn’t come back down, if you know what I mean.
Lasting bittersweet finish. 944play (28), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 6, 2008 16.9oz in bordeaux glass. Amber, low off-white head. Big dried tropical fruit, cookie, molasses, and fig nose. Sweet up front, mellow piney bitter going down. No evidence of bottle conditioning except the printing on the label. IlanMan (573), Winona, Minnesota, USA Oct 5, 2008 Bottle: Pour is slightly hazy brown with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is malty with a slight touch of floral hops. Flavor is damn smooth with medium malt, slight up front bitterness moving to some nice nutmeg and clove characters. This is a damn fine brew from fullers. Smooth and delicious. Would buy again.
