mybestfriend (241), Gothenburg, Sweden May 9, 2008 Updated: May 11, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma is fruity with notes of dried fruit, (a bit buttery) fudge, caramel and sweet liquorice. Flavour is dried fruits, caramel, toffee and liquorice. In the finish I get some salty liquorice (it is rather salty!). With a nice bitterness. Good one!
jason (1473), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 23, 2008 Bottle. Poured a nice orange body with huge head. Aroma is light hops and sweet malt. Flavor is light hops, bread and sweet malt. Slight dry and one dimensional from beggining to end. Perhaps it needs to be aged for awhile as this rating is from a fresh bottle. TET (120), Finland Jul 22, 2008 Very dark-brown beer with medium beige head. Aroma is complicatedly sweet: malts, syrup, raisins and some balanced roastiness. Flavour is similar than aroma; sweet malts with some roasted malts and syrup. Smooth and slippery to drink, quite pleasant. Fuller’s 1845 Celebration Ale is too sweet for my taste but still balanced beer and whoever this style-loving will be like this too. A_R (279), Georgia, USA Jul 18, 2008 Upon pouring, there is a strong toffee aroma to this beer. The color is a hazy brown. This is a sipping beer. It includes a cognac/whiskey molasses flavoring. dkoonce (725), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Jul 15, 2008 Dark brown, with a thick, tight head that fades to a nice lace down the glass. The aroma is sweet malt and alcohol. From the aroma, I’d peg the alcohol at 9%+ Medium/heavy body, with a sweetness that overrides the subtle malt. Not much bitterness. The finish lingers, due to the sweetness and alcohol. Ljunkan (108), Karlstad, Sweden Jul 15, 2008 Aroma: tropical fruits, sweet malt, caramel, slightly hoppy.
Appearance: dark red, almost brown color with a nice white head.
Flavour: malty sweetness, caramel, sweet berries, aromatic flowery hops. Good bitterness.
Palate: smooth, clean, bitter finish.
Overall: an easy-to-drink-beer, with a very good maltiness. As the beer warms up it reveals a nice, flowery bitterness. Feels a bit like a "Barley Wine-light". Fuller’s never fails to impress me, but, honestly, this one took time to understand. Maybe it was a bit too cold first (even though it wasn’t that cold), but i don’t know. I think this is the best beer I’ve had from Fuller’s, even though the ESB and Porter are very good too.
