Cask: Regular (but not permanent). Also available bottle conditioned (at 5.3%). Bengal Lancer is a traditional India Pale Ale, pale amber in colour, distinctively hoppy and highly refreshing. It’s notable for floral and spicy notes from the hops, and a finish of mild bitterness. A version of Bengal Lancer is brewed specifically for the export market, known simply as Fuller’s India Pale Ale.

Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is balanced with sweet malt and earthy hops. Taste follows but with some more hop character, earthy and citrusy. Finish has more bitterness and also lingers in the aftertaste. Light body with the specific british minerality and medium carbonation. Overall it’s a decent english style IPA but nothing special.

I bought a couple of bottles to try to culture up the yeast for homebrewing but wish that I had just bought the yeast from the labs. Lacking in aroma and bitterness, it doesn’t taste to me anything like the claimed bitterness levels just caramel taste. There is much better beer than this around these days.

(Fuller’s Bengal Lancer) Bottle 330 ml at home as Fuller’s India Pale Ale, purple label. Served into a shaker, ABV 5.3% Deep orange coloured body, clear, with a small and thin white head sitting on top, low retention. Not much of an aroma, very faint citrs, some malts and marmalade. Taste is quite bitter, with metallic notes, marmalade, malts, some citrus and orange. Medium body, good carbonation. Decent I guess, far less than what I expected though.

500 ml bottle. Labelled as Fuller’s India Pale Ale. Bottle conditioned. 5.3 % / 13.3 %. Pours rich amber to orange colour. Off-white 1.5 finger frothy head. Fades gradually. Leaves a thin layer on the beer surface. Aroma: gentle exotic fruits; passionfruit, mango, tangerine, some malts. Taste: raisins, malts, fruity citric, grapefruit, mild bitterness. I’d say it’s a calm IPA. I like some with higher IBU.
