COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular (but not permanent). Also available bottle conditioned (at 5.3%).

NOTE: Originally developed for Systembolaget in Sweden as the 5.3% bottle conditioned version of Fullers India Pale Ale in 2009. Also released in bottles into some other export markets under that name at around the same time. Subsequently launched in the UK as Bengal Lancer and exported at 5.3% in bottle conditioned format to certain export markets under that name. The bottled version of Bengal Lancer and the 5.3% bottle conditioned version of India Pale Ale are the same beer, as is the slightly weaker 5.0% cask version. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDQNyaNLkQc for explanation.

Bengal Lancer is an exciting, classic India Pale Ale from Fuller’s. Brewed to 5% ABV (5.3% in bottle), this ale has been inspired by the history and character of this traditional style of beer.
Bengal Lancer has returned to pumps for an extended period between Autumn 2011 and Spring 2012.
The beer is pale in colour, full-bodied with a distinctive hoppiness that marks it out as a true India Pale Ale.

500mL bottle from LCBO. Pours clear golden yellow, until you reach the sediment. Mild aroma of caramel and English hops. As for taste: not sure I agree with the "ESB" classification. It is more bitter than an ESB, and lacks the caramel malt flavours. It is as much an IPA as it can be with English hops; quite bitter, no big malt backbone, and metallic English hops. A fine effort, but I think I’ll stick to IPAs made with American hops.

50 cl bottle @ Salhojankadun Pub. Rated on 02.06.2011
Aroma is somewhat hoppy with flowery notes, some toffee, caramel and hints of honey. Flavour is somewhat malty with caramel, flowery notes, hops and some toffee. Rather typical British IPA.

Pours golden with frothy off white head. Aroma more malty than hoppy. Taste is floral hops followed by bitter dryness then sweetness, more dryness calling for another swig...

Dark amber with a good white head, one finger. Lots of malt and hops on the nose with hints of citrus and wet grass. Tangy from the citrus, bordering bitter. Slightly dry with the grass coming through. Quite smooth and silky with a very faint hint of liquor and caramel sweetness. The malt and hops carry the beer all the way. It tastes like another one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at ÖÖWF 2011. It poured a clear golden liquid with a minimal white head. Smell and taste of gras and flowery hops. Very easy to drink and would be allot better served as a full pint rather then the sample I had at the festival.

Pours a clear gold with nice white head. Aroma is subtlety hoppy and well balanced. Flavor is refreshingly simple and bitter. Nice beer.

Cask at the Basketmakers Arms in Brighton, on 2nd January 2012. Amber with hardly any head and no lacing. Caramel, malt and alcohols in aroma. Sweet in-mouth with hoppiness undercutting this sweetness. Grassiness late on before a bittersweet aftertaste develops. Medium to full body, and light carbonation.

On tap at the sanctuary. Was kind of excited but was pretty disappointed in this. A classic British style IPA. Some mineral quality to it. Not much hop and nothing to really distinguish it.

Bottle from the LCBO (as Fuller’s India Pale Ale). Golden-orange with a small creamy white head and a few floaties. Aroma of orange candy and biscuity malt. Very nice mouthfeel, medium bodied and soft, almost cask-like. Delicious moreish flavour, strongly hopped, with bitter-sweet citrus notes over a mellow caramel malt base. An excellent UK-style IPA, just loved it!

Bottled, 0.5l. Pours cloudy amber colour with medium sized frothy, long-lasting head, fizzy carbonation and some yeast residue. Hops and citruses prevail in the aroma, while flowers were also noted. Sour fruity and malty start is followed by long pleasantly bitter finish and aftertaste. Medium bodied, dry texture and lively carbonation in palate. Excellent!

Bottled, 0.5l. Pours pale amber with large frothy white head and lively carbonation. Aroma of citrus and grassy hops. Refreshing fruity taste with traces of grapefruit, rich mouthfeel and distinctive hoppy aftertaste. Full bodied with thick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Always worth of pouring another one...
