COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - released in Autumn 2010. Also available on cask at GBBF 2010.
An oak-aged ale of real distinction that has been matured for a year in fine cognac casks, Brewer’s Reserve No. 2 is a limited edition rich amber ale with a sherry and orange aroma, luxurious chocolate palate and warming cognac finish. An exceptional beer that has been brewed and blended in the finest traditions.

EDITORS NOTE: Some sources have been erroneously applying the description for the Brewers Reserve No 1 to this beer. In fact, No 2 was aged in Cognac barrels whilst No 1 was aged in Whisky barrels.

Pours dark golden with a low head. Aroma is cognac. Nothing more. Flavor is malty cognac with a bit too much alcohol. Despite that it’s still quite enjoyable if you like cognac.

Bottle at chriso vintage tasting. Clear, rich gold pour with a large, off-white foam head. Sweet malt aroma, some candy. Big sweet flavor, some caramel, toasty sugars, light dry wood. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warm finish, sweet caramel, some booze. Alright. Solid overall, though it doesn’t blow me away.

Bottle from Systembolaget. It poured a slightly hazy copper-golden liquid with a small white head. Sweet malty smell with wood and cognac. Fairly dry with a strong taste of malts, cognac and wood. Warm alcoholic finnish. The mouthfeel is a bit harsh.

Kita (435) - Koper, SLOVENIA - JAN 14, 2012
Bottled, 0.5l. Pours clear orange brown, cherry colour with small frothy brownish and diminishing head. Carbonation is flat. Hoppy nose with fruity notes of orange and vanilla. Aroma of cognac and caramel are also evident. Sweet malty taste with roasted caramel and light hoppy aftertaste. Full bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation in palate. Better than cognac...

Deep amber color with pretty lace. Nose of caramel, vanilla, and some cognac. A bit boozy and slightly oxidized. Sweet caramel flavor, booze, light fruits, barrel flavor is very subtle but pleasant enough. Smooth, with soft carbonation.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2012 My last beer of 2011, poured with a clean head, delicious aroma similar to 2008 Vintage Ale. Cognac back taste very subtle, not as obvious as some of the whisky casked ales e.g. Innis & Gunn. Expensive at £7.50 from the brewery and perhaps not as appealing as some of the Vintage Ales I’ve had and slightly thin for 8.2% but a delightful beer to end the year.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber color with a airy off-white head. The nose is sweet - some roasted malts, toffee, chestnuts, dark fruits and alcohol. The taste is sweet and hot, dominated by the malt flavorings, the cognac aging definitely shows itself. The body’s a bit too hot for my liking, I’d have like to have aged this for a bit. The texture is a bit oily. Overall, OK and reasonably complex in flavor. Not amazing, though.

Bottled at oh6gdx’s birthday bash at chriso’s. Clear amber, small head. Aroma of caramel and cardboard. Sweet and caramelly with medium-full body. Sticky syrup, cardboard and perhaps some cheap booze. Low bitterness. Feels industrial, like the Innis & Gunn range.

Bottle at home. Clear copper color. Flavor heavy malty (caramel, roasted, wood, chocolate, cognac). Flavor moderate sweet, light bitter and spicy. Medium to full body.
