Brewer’s Reserve No.3 has spent 800 days gently maturing in old Auchentoshan whisky barrels, the longest maturation period of any of the Brewer’s Reserve beers. The beer draws notes of vanilla, honey and spicy ginger from the whisky-soaked wood, combined with a rich malty body.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and some hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of brettanomyces, malt, caramel, and wood, leading to a dry and tart finish.

On tap at GBBF 2011, Day 3. Pours a clear, honey-amber with a very soft head. Big, ripe fruit nose, honey, slight brown sugar. Full and sweet flavor, lots of sugar, toasty malts. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Warming finish, more honey, ripe fruits, and light toffee. Very good beer.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2011 Cask, one-third pint as my final beer at the Great British Beer Festival ‘11, and my last drink at Earls Court Exhibition Centre, ever. Transparent amber body colour. Bright, shiny surface. Smell of whisky oak, notes of vanilla and a touch of dry bread. Half-tart plums and dried fruits in flavour sustained by woody dryness and whisky with a bourbon touch. Full bodied and rather heavy to drink. Good sipper, a tad too young, perhaps (London 04.08.2011).

500ml bottle. Pours medium amber, beige head. Very complex aromas, malt, hops, wood, vanilla, cardamom, spices. Off-dry, medium to full body, medium bitterness, lively CO2. Spicy, woody taste, malt, vanilla, hops, dried fruits, spices, Long, complex finish, maybe it gets a tiny bit cloying and sweet towards the end. (2011-09-06)

GBBF. Cask. Clear brown beer, no real head. Light semi dry palate. A little apple and then nice soft whisky tones. Some toffeeish malt. Semi dry finish with more even mild whisky flavours. Nice but possibly a tad young.
