COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewer’s Reserve No.3 has spent 800 days gently maturing in old Auchentoshan whisky barrels, adding a spirit-like edge to the beer, particularly on the nose...Brewer’s Reserve No.3’s extensive maturation time has infused the beer with delicious vanilla, warm honey and spicy ginger flavours. These combined with the rich malt body and pleasant sharp fruitiness derived from the beer, result in a wonderfully complex and very satisfying beer

Aroma: Smells strongly like wine (Retsina?). Citrusy, resiny. Grape, candy, vanilla and more. I think the old wood is discernible, too. Very special. Mouthfeel: Creamy and full. Taste: Sour (oh so lovely!), creamy taste, orangey hops, brandyish warmness. Spices, caramel, yeast, liquorice and more. The dominant part is the wild yeast sourness. Very distinguished. Finish: Alcoholic, dry and sour. Overall: A very very complex and unique beer. I ’d like some more bitterness, though. Great.

12,13,13,14,15,13

Pours a cloudy amber with a big, kind of fizzy, off-white head. The aroma is a little weak but with pleasant notes of honey. The taste is incredible smooth without losing in complexity. Sweet malt, vanilla from the oak, a slight tartness, hints of whisky. There really is a lot going on but in a very subtle sort of way. Creamy mouth-feel with low carbonation. In one word: Classy.

Bottle from Bell & Crown pub, nr Kew Bridge, London, 05.11.11 on Thames Tipple, consumed 08.11.11 Pours reddy/amber with very little head to speak of, there might of been one, however when I got around to rating it, it must have shot off. There is a little whisky on the nose but it is not over done and there is a light woodiness wonderful soft vanilla, good nose. Tastes great, soft in mouth, vanilla, maltiness, some whisky but in no way is it overdone, warmth throughout, tiny bit of spice. If there is anything lacking it is there is that despite all of the positives it lacks just a bit more depth of flavour, however considering it is whisky cask aged I am so glad that this isn’t over the top. Good beer, I like this. A8 A3 T8 P4 Ov17 4.0

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2012 Bottled from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Orange-brown colored, off-white head. Malty, fruity, and whisky nose. Malty and alcoholic flavor, lots of wood. Whisky dominates, and makes the beer feel a little bit like a watered down version of a good whisky. Still, that’s pretty enjoyable.

Bottle. Amber color. Whisky, oak, malt, honey and floral notes in the fairly complex aroma. Malty oaky floral flavor with strong whisky notes. Honey, citrus, dried tropical fruit. Vanilla. Hints of smoke. Lovely!

Pours well carbonated oak colour but thin with no head. Aroma of cherry coke, banana with a little whiskey tartness. Taste is hugely surprising, the whiskey barrel aged beers I've had before have all been ruined by tasting like weak spirit rather than beer, and I dont really like whiskey. This however is different. Mouthfeel is carbonated and smooth with a medium body. Taste is initially sweet malts with very mild whiskey barrel notes of caramel and cherry cola, which builds in bitterness and warms the mouth and throat - the only sign of any alcohol. Unlike most barrel aged beer its very drinkable, no need for sipping. This is lovely stuff, the best BA beer I've had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Bottled) Clear copper with a medium head - nice one for an oak aged beer. Strong vanilla oakiness in the nose with calvados, red wine and almost lambic-tart apple fruitiness. Flavor is less sour, and there’s no red wine. Calvados-like apple tartness is, however, present, with some whisky-like roughness in the background. ABV is very well hidden, and the overall balance is great. Medium to full body, quite low CO2. A very non-British brew, that reminds me of ’t Smisje Calva Reserva - but without the sweetness. A successful barrel-ageing, and certainly among the very best English brews I’ve had.
