The fourth incarnation of Brewer’s Reserve spent a year in the Fuller’s cellar in rare Comte de Lauvia Armagnac casks from the Bas region of France. The beer is infused with brandy characteristics, with distinctive notes of vanilla, green apple and cinnamon, a solid malt base and velvety alcohol warmth.

500 ml bottle from LCBO via my bro, served quite cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear mahogany with a full, rocky tan head. Aroma: Rich raisins and other dark dried fruits, boozy, plenty of wood, strong caramel/treacle notes, somewhat earthy and woodsy, a little tangy/vinous, dark bread crust, a bit of hazelnut and Sherry (oxidation?). Palate: Medium+ body, full, pillowy effervescence. Flav.: Plenty of dark dried fruit, lots of booze, assertive Armagnac/cask/wood character, cherries, big yet thin maltiness, stings a bit, Sherry notes, interesting if a bit aggressive; dry with moderate bitterness and a long, boozy, wood cask and Sherry finish.

Certainly a sipper.

24/05 Another ogivlado’s Fuller’s, 0.5l, thanks for sharing! It poured almost clear brownish body with medium sized head. Decent hoppy aroma, herbal and papery with clearly separated alcoholic malty note. Slightly sour flavor, mostly fruity, malt is generally killed by alcoholic notes of barrel where it was aged, making it rather thin bodied with long warming finish. Also feels unbalanced and not particularly easy going, although showed some qualities, which proves this all could be done so much better. Oh Fuller’s...always fails with some fancy experiments. Yet, as I see here, people tend to appreciate it and actually prefer it over some wonderfully executed experiments by big (and less grand) names in craft beer world. Not bad as could sound, it still deserves 3.2 I gave it now.

Bottle @ døe øl smagning, 17 / 7 2013. Dark orange, small white head, not a lot of lacing. Aroma, malty, toffee, armagnac, fruity. Taste, malty, armagnac alcohol, toffee. Leaves warming mouth feel. Maybe a bit too much carbonation.

Just put an average ale in a Armagnac cask and this is what you get. Very poor and heartless ’special’ beer. Typical commercial.

This ale is very well balanced even though it is 8.5% and oak-barrel aged. Smoke and vanilla are very well balanced.

500ml bottle with a fellow Siebel student, thanks Tim! Bottle #24995. Pours a clear, orange-gold colored body with a finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is pretty fruity with a nice caramel note, some wood, a pleasant brandy, and touches of vanilla. Flavor is similar. Fruity throughout with a moderately sweet caramel and toffee as well as a nice wood, brandy, and vanilla. Finishes dry, woody, and fruity with a nice sweetness and a light alcohol warmth. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and a very soft, creamy, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty cool beer. A lot fruitier than I anticipated, but well balanced and very enjoyable. Good one.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2014 Gekruiden geur. Kruiden drankje. Frisdrank. Waterig. Helaas kan ik niet meer noteren als deze rating. Dit komt doordat ik dit biertje te slecht vond om er meer over te kunnen noteren.
