The fourth incarnation of Brewer’s Reserve spent a year in the Fuller’s cellar in rare Comte de Lauvia Armagnac casks from the Bas region of France. The beer is infused with brandy characteristics, with distinctive notes of vanilla, green apple and cinnamon, a solid malt base and velvety alcohol warmth.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours hazy copper with a beige head that settles to a thin rim. The aroma is sour, like a flemmish rouge. It’s not pleasant! The beer is much more pleasant to drink. Smooth, malty, sweet, nuts and hoppyt bitterness blend nicely. There’s some of that sourness too, but less emphasized and not unpleasant this time. Nose and looks pull down the average on this beer - it’s not something I’ll buy again.

(Bottle) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, apricots, orange peel, dark bread, honey, oak wood, vanilla, a touch of chocolate and earthy aromas of armagnac. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, apricots, dark bread, nuts, orange peel, a touch of chocolate, spicy hints of cinnamon and vanilla, and a warming touch of armagnac in a finish with a balanced bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and interesting, with a distinct armagnac character, that stay well balanced throughout. Very nice.

Bright amber, coarse low top. Dry, fruit-cake fruity. Some nuts and malt drops. Predominant barrel notes, yet quite soft in the mouth. [Bottle from the brewery, enjoyed at home]

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear copper colour with moderate-sized cream-coloured head. Aroma is quite woody with caramel, cherries, baked apples and earthiness. Flavour is full of oakiness, fair amount of dark fruit, including cherry, stewed green apple, hints of caramel and vanilla, as well as a little earthiness. Interesting.

Deep honey, chocolate aroma. Pours dark amber with a foamy, bubbling which has the hint of sweetness from the armagnac oak casks . Has a heady oaked flavour, malty, caramel, and that armagnac returns at the end. Triumphant!
