2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 15, 2011
First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone way back in May 1987. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear pale tawny in colour with a thin creamy white head. Short yeasty bread notes in the aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit base with tangy marmalade peel notes. Strong metallic tang of hop resins gives a long bitter aftertaste. Finish is well balanced with slightly sweet notes of satsumas coming through. An ok session bitter
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jackl (756) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 11, 2011
Cask. Light amber color with very little head. Biscuity malts and light, raisiny notes dominate the nose. The taste is light and bitter, refreshing if watery. The palate is light, carbonation light. This is a fine bitter that gets reasonable flavor out of the abv. Still, this beer’s a pretty boring bitter. I just don’t quite understand how this was gbbf champion beer of 1989.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mabel (4405) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 9, 2011
[4044-20111028] Cask. Smells a little like olives and fresh Chardonnay grapes with a little peat. Slightly hazy, orange brown body with a quick bubbly head. Lightly bitter flavour has an odd grape skin malt and light burnt bread notes. Medium body is a little undercarbonated and watery. Average, but happy for the opportunity to try it. (6/3/5/3/13) 3.0
