Commercial Description:
Bottle & keg (USA); Pasteurised.
First brewed in 1971. Ingredients: Pale Ale malt, Crystal malt and Maize; Target, Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops.
Brewed at 5.5% ABV in cask and 5.9% ABV in bottle, ESB is a true liquid legend, and should be savoured as such.
ESB has a wonderful rich mahogany appearance. Taking in the nose, the beer is bursting with cherry and orange, balanced by soft malty toffee and caramel notes. The flavour delivers everything you would expect from such a full-bodied ale. The unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops imparts grassy, peppery notes on the tongue along with intense citrus fruit characters of grapefruits, oranges and lemons. The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew give a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. A smooth, mellow bitterness lingers on the palate to give a superbly satisfying finish.

Pours dark with a quickly dissipating head, this was not too bitter for a pale ale bitter. Goes down surprisingly smooth, though at times I wonder if this is classified incorrectly.

Pours a deep brown colour with a brown head that is quick to dissipate. A very malty start. Caramel and raisins. Lots of foam and very creamy texture all the way through. It has a moderately bitter aftertaste but finishes smooth.

Fullers ESB is copper-brown beer with very weak white head. Aroma is very temptating: sweet malts, toffee and fruitfull hops. Flavour is balanced and it is quite similar than aroma: quite sweet start changes more bitter into the end and civiliced hops support to flavour. Carbonation is balanced and body is strong enough to make this nice to drink. Balanced and aromatically hopped beer with very temptating aroma.

This beer pours a clear mahogany with hints of rust red. What little head there is appears brite white. It smells like smooth cherry and brown sugar. Not quite like anything I’ve tried before. In tasting it I find it extremely smooth. It remiinds me of fresh sweet corn. Very nice.

Bottle... Poured amber with a thin white head. Aroma is thick with malt and buttery caramel. Smooth and foamy palate. Strong, crystal malt flavors up front with caramel and balancing hops that all lend toward lemon grass and pepery spices.

On tap @ Shakespeare’s pub San Diego. Clear light amber color with a fully diminishing white head. Light caramel aroma. Sweet light caramel flavor.

Poured from tap a light brown with a large creamy, dense ivory head. Aromas of toasty biscuit, a bit of straw and some fruity note. Flavor is full of malt, bisquit, tart peach, caramel, and a grassy straw. Palate is lightly sweet with a mild bittering thoughout and a big malty mouth fullness. Overall, a nice round beer that goes well with pub grub. I’ll be having another.

FINALLY found this one for $11.25 @ sixer in a HyVee gocery store in Council Bluffs IA of all places. I was knocked out by the taste, and am now on a quest to find more in the Albuquerque-Santa Fe region of NM. Local dealers give me phantom sightings ("we JUST had some"), but no actual results just yet. I might have to rent a truck and haul it in myself. This stuff was mothers-milk smooth with a 6% ABV kick. Smoothest brew I’ve drunk that I can remember. If this was freely available, I’d drink nothing else (well, at least for a while). Exceptional!
