Commercial Description:
Bottle & keg (USA); Pasteurised.
First brewed in 1971. Ingredients: Pale Ale malt, Crystal malt and Maize; Target, Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops.
Brewed at 5.5% ABV in cask and 5.9% ABV in bottle, ESB is a true liquid legend, and should be savoured as such.
ESB has a wonderful rich mahogany appearance. Taking in the nose, the beer is bursting with cherry and orange, balanced by soft malty toffee and caramel notes. The flavour delivers everything you would expect from such a full-bodied ale. The unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops imparts grassy, peppery notes on the tongue along with intense citrus fruit characters of grapefruits, oranges and lemons. The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew give a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. A smooth, mellow bitterness lingers on the palate to give a superbly satisfying finish.

Draught: Aroma a bit hard to smell because of so many goddamn cigarettes in the bar. Anyway, smells of caramel malts. Poured amber in color with a medium-sized, creamy, off-white head that lasted throughout. Small lacing. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor was lightly sweet. Tasted of malts, caramel, cream, and some floral hops. Really tasted like Boddington’s Pub Ale. Light to medium body. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Creamy, malty finish. Not bitter at all.

Pours a beautiful amber hue with foamy off white head. Sweet Bready nose. Caramel and malt create the flavor, with a slight bitterness. Quite clean, also, with dried fruit finish. Nice offering.

A really nice, reliable beer readily available in bottles and I’d love to access this on tap sometime. A good standard.

I had a can of this the day after I had had a pint rom the cask, and it was intresting to note the differences. Not as complex, or as fruity and it seemed to have picked up some metallic flavours. Better on tap.

Bottle. I haven’t had this beer in quite some time, I even remember having this before I knew what "ESB" stood for. Of course, now that I know, this is a superb example of what a bitter should be. Nice caramel and malt notes, and a nice bitter finish.

Copper, clearish color with a small head. Smell is mostly caramel like malt with a hint of alcohol at times with the caramel. Tastes like lightly bitter smooth liquid caramel. Almost a light burnt sugar taste because of the light bitterness with a touch of alcohol. Decent, drinkable beer, but not my preferred style.

Awwww yeah, can’t go wrong with a Fullers. Pours dark amber, but clear, all malt in the nose, and malty on the gums with a little bit of bitterness in the finish. Excellent, excellent beer.

deep caramel look and taste. Sweet, some carbonation, very little bitterness or even hop presence. Soft, even chewy mouthfeel. I was a little confused at first. Not what i expected, but i don’t mean this as a negative. No "bite" attached to this, purely smooth and creamy
