COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular.
First brewed in 1969 as Winter Bitter - renamed Extra Special Bitter in 1971.
Ingredients: Pale Ale and Crystal malts; Target, Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops. Dry hopped in the brewery.
CAMRA Supreme Champion 1978, 1981 and 1985.
Brewed at 5.5% ABV in cask and 5.9% ABV in bottle, ESB is a true liquid legend, and should be savoured as such.
ESB has a wonderful rich mahogany appearance. Taking in the nose, the beer is bursting with cherry and orange, balanced by soft malty toffee and caramel notes. The flavour delivers everything you would expect from such a full-bodied ale. The unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops imparts grassy, peppery notes on the tongue along with intense citrus fruit characters of grapefruits, oranges and lemons. The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew give a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. A smooth, mellow bitterness lingers on the palate to give a superbly satisfying finish.

NOTE: Most Fuller’s beer in the US is served by handpump kegs and not a cask. Ask your server.

Cask various locations over the years. Dark copper colour and thin white head. Aroma is sweet malt with hoppy edges. Sweet malt flavour with a dry finish. Not quite the fine beer of old and never travels well outside the M25.

Plenty of flavour but tastes a bit too strong and starts to take like pure alcohol after a while. Not as good as London Pride.

Cask at Cockney Pub. Creamy white fair mostly lastuing head. Amber colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate biotter finish. Malty and herbal. Creamy palate. Nice.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2010 cask @ several Fullers pubs. When its in good condition , you’re gonna recive a very malty , sweet ale . Tepid or some shit. If they’ve Chiswick on get that instead.

Cask - Fat Cat, Norwich. Copper/amber coloured body with a fine, bubbly white head. Malty aromas of toffee and a biscuity, bready character. Smooth and soft mouthfeel with a slight degree of carbonation. Average and pale in comparison to the bottled version - highly disappointed.

On cask at the princess head in Richmond. This always surprises me how light the colour is in the glass but i find that incredibly becoming. Great beer, bags of the orangey character you usually get but my only complaint about this was a touch of hot alcohol on the palate, never mind it went down well with my bangers and mash!

Cask at the Waggoners Arms, Kew Bridge, with tashi, 8th April 09. Clear medium to dark amber with a lacy head. Malty and flavoursome, with good body. A solid English ESB, a good example of the style.

Cask @ the local 44 in philly. Pours brown with a white frothy head, typical of cask beers. nose was yogurt, hops, bread, great lacing. taste started off bitter, kind of spicy with notes of lemon rind, but then it trailed off into a complex yogurt flavor that is really difficult to describe. malt character was strong. I could drink this beer for hours. Definitive sesh beer. I may have been sitting in west philly but I definitely felt like I might have been back in the uk. besides all of the loud obnoxious yanks!
