Cask: Regular.
First brewed in 1969 as Winter Bitter - renamed Extra Special Bitter in 1971.
Ingredients: Pale Ale and Crystal malts; Target, Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops. Dry hopped in the brewery.
CAMRA Supreme Champion 1978, 1981 and 1985.
Brewed at 5.5% ABV in cask and 5.9% ABV in bottle, ESB is a true liquid legend, and should be savoured as such.
ESB has a wonderful rich mahogany appearance. Taking in the nose, the beer is bursting with cherry and orange, balanced by soft malty toffee and caramel notes. The flavour delivers everything you would expect from such a full-bodied ale. The unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops imparts grassy, peppery notes on the tongue along with intense citrus fruit characters of grapefruits, oranges and lemons. The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew give a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. A smooth, mellow bitterness lingers on the palate to give a superbly satisfying finish.

NOTE: Most Fullerís beer in the US is served by handpump kegs and not a cask. Ask your server.

My favorite English beer, very important to drink it young. True afficionados drink it the day it is delivered - the publican may say it hasnít settled - ignore him and offer twice the usual price. When delivered it is bright, exciting the very elixir of life with hops whizzing around in the glass in the excited bubbles. It may look like a snow storm but the taste is out of this world. I have never met a publican that once persuaded to serve it on the day it is delivered is not hooked himself - they usually donít charge double the price you have offered to get them to serve it to you. Try this once and you too will be hooked!

One of Fullers mighty brews. A great full strength, full bodied dark English ale. Not for the faint hearted though. It has a lovely rich treacly taste that is very easy to drink despite its high alcohol level.

@ St. Urhoís Pub, Helsinki. Pours deep, clear copper with a white frothy head. The aroma features toasty maltiness, bisquit, nuts and some citrusy fruitiness. Taste is dryish with low to medium bitterness; toasted, nutty maltiness is most prominent with citrus giving support. Hoppiness is fairly mild all in all. The palate is medium-bodied with a characteristically smooth and velvety mouthfeel, very drinkable. Surprisingly malt-driven, at least this cask.
