Goldings hops and Golden Promise malt.
At 8.5% ABV, Golden Pride guarantees a superb range of flavours, that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Our brewers describe Golden Pride thus: í deep amber in appearance, Golden Pride is full bodied, of moderate bitterness, moderately hopped and rich in malt. Full flavoured, and reminiscent of sweet orange oil, toasted grains, and bread. Rich malty aromas lead to a similarly styled palate, with an intense finish. Sweet and bitter flavours are expressed in good balance in this weighty brew.í Or as the late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, put it: íthe Cognac of beersí.

Brown with a small head when poured. Sugary, toffee with a slightly hoppy scent. Quite dry and only lightly carbonated. Tastes very strong with overpowering sugars and syrup, almost like a barley wine.

Odd. Canít get my head round it. Smells like a no (Yep) tastes like a no (Yep again) too much alcohol, too sweet (too malty as well, like a malt beer), but then kinda works (not unpleasant but something not quite right). But a low score cause none of the parts are very good and the sum total isnít very good (Thatís what I was thinking, some people are more eloquent though). But then there is something that works (not me, I have done bugger all today) How does that work? (Hid in my office, but it was too cold so I sat in the staff room and pretended to be busy) Definitely in the barley wine realm of beer. Joke time.... when is a wine actually a beer? When itís a barley wine. (He is actually pretty funny but this is scraping the bottom) Youíre right, iíll ignore stand-up. (Call yourself a teacher? Capital I please. ) Definitely for the best. Though I am funny, honest. (I would agree) Only problem is that in my old job I was pretty sure I was the funniest person that worked there (what about the Lox?) no longer true.... though Iím not sure all staff would agree. Theyíd be wrong if they didnít. (Correct)

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2014 I tasted this a few months after "Fullers Past Masters XX Strong Ale" - still the same joy. Iím beginning to feel that English strong ales or strong ales as a whole is worth attention, my attention, it this case after IPAs. Very fruity, sweet, dense (if dense goes under taste tab :) )taste, very aromatic with an exact amount of bitterness. Really enjoyed it. As a bonus comes those rocket earth-sky launching 8.5% degrees :)

0.5L bottle Spirits&Wine, Spice, Riga Beautiful and dangerously delicious brew. A bit more caramel flavor and body/alco - and it would be a barleywine. Gentle hopping level with enought malt sweetness to allow yeast produced fruity esters to shine. Pleasant, sweet, light caramel, candy like aroma with semisweet taste pattern. No long lasting aftertaste, a bit alcohol comes out at the end but mild sweetness and gentle, velvety texture is not suposed to be sipping brew, drinkability level- medium to high. Clear, more ambery than coppery in color, small, beige frothy top. Liked.

From pint bottle. Pours a mostly clear copper with a thin off-white head and light carbonation. Aromas of raisins, caramel, malt and flowers. Taste starts off with sweet caramel and stewed apple before an orange zest and pepper bitterness washes in. Finishes with raisins and cinnamon. Very decent beer.

Bottle. Alcohol aroma is apparent from the pour, which is red brown with a rapidly diminishing head. Taste is malty with some orange, a slight bitterness and a finishing alcohol burn.

AGAquino (665) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 22, 2010
UPDATED: MAY 23, 2010 500ml bottle bought in Port of Spain, West Bees supermarket. Pours reddish amber with foamy white head and some, not lasting lace. Aroma of malty dried fruits, slight hoppy bitter and candy. Flavour is thick with traces of sweet malts, toffee, and sugar. Alcohol is noticeable but subtle. Nice lingering aftertaste. Most probably, the best beer available in Trinidad.

Bottle. A copper color beer with a small white head. Aroma is sweety, malty and alcohol. Taste is also sweety and malty, notes of caramel, sugarand dry fruits. Dry and bitter end. A little bit too alcoholic of the style

Clear, amber beer with a small white head. Some sweetness on the nose, peach. The body is medium plus. Mouth feel is soft and round. Alcohol warms things up. Sweet caramel, malts, slight and round bitterness, a hint of berries. Very good.

Panzerfaust (657) - Hanga Roa, Easter Island, CHILE - MAY 18, 2012
500 ml bottle from Jumbo Alto Las Condes. Pours a hazy dark amber/bronze color with a medium grayish-white head that laces well. Strong, malty-fruity aroma, complex with notes of molasses, peaches, strawberries, Amaretto cream, cranberries, hay, buttery biscuit and lots of phenols. Big, overpowering and malty. Intensely sweet, syrupy but well-made. Big flavors of molasses, palm syrup, overripe peaches and liquor. Boozy and heavy. When it warms, the sweetness becomes overwhelming. The hops are barely noticeable. Huge body, thick in the mouth. Finish is long and leaves a warm and boozy sensation in the mouth. As much a Barley Wine as an English Strong Ale. Enjoyable yet a little too sweet.
