COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle. Also available in keg for export only. The very occasional cask version is only available in the UK and has a separate listing.
Goldings hops and Golden Promise malt.
At 8.5% ABV, Golden Pride guarantees a superb range of flavours, that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Our brewers describe Golden Pride thus: í deep amber in appearance, Golden Pride is full bodied, of moderate bitterness, moderately hopped and rich in malt. Full flavoured, and reminiscent of sweet orange oil, toasted grains, and bread. Rich malty aromas lead to a similarly styled palate, with an intense finish. Sweet and bitter flavours are expressed in good balance in this weighty brew.í Or as the late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, put it: íthe Cognac of beersí.

500ml Bottle Sainsburyís Kidlington 14-04-06. Dark amber, roasted nuts in what is a very poweful aroma. Very good malty (slightly sweet) beer.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2008 Fitting toast to Beckhamís anticlimactic 100th cap in Paris. Bronze ringed with white. Some enticing stemmy green orange/juniper hop notes on the nose, sweetly citrussy with plenty of caramelised malt back-up a bit like a mellow IPA. Flavour marred by too much coarse antiseptic alcohol, whiskeyish booze, and (agian) a dead lingering bitterness presumably the by-product of filtering/pasteurisation. Completely unaromatic. If thatís a word. Vaguely pleasant toffeeish notes, but smothered with sickly, buttery almond (ethanol). A very fine line indeed between this and Bavaria Red/RIP/ Exterminator-type malt liquors served in a brown paper bag. Dead barley wine ruined by pasteurisation and too much booze. I couldnít finish it.

A Mes rate: Roasted malts and alcoholic nose with a touch of caramel too. Amazing colour to the body, deep dark (almost black) translucent ruby amber. The usual crap head for and English beer. Flavour is all roasted malts, toffee and brown sugar, similar to the Vintage ale but not as strong and much more pleasing. The alcohol is clearly there but not at all offensive, more in a "this is going to get me drunk and you are going to like it" way. Finish is sweet again with some chocolate and butter. I know a lot of people are going to find this one too sweet but to me its all just hinted at and really rather good. Palate is syrupy but not in a bad way (thick mouthfeel) and I must mention the lovely alcoholic kick in the finish too. Rather lovely, this is giving me some faith in beers from my own country.

Bottle. High creamy and lasting off-white head. Clear dark brown body. Dry and burned barley malt aroma. Pleasant smooth barley malt flavor with a suitable amount of hops bitterness. Low carbonation. Short aftertaste.

Bottle from Sainsburyís. It pours clear deep amber with a small off-white head. The nose is wood, toast, toffee, stewed orange, hot cross bun, raisin and date. The taste is sweet, toffee, raisin, toasted malt, wood, orange peel, earth, light spice, varnish and warming alcohol with a dry, earthy finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Rich, warming and good depth of flavour, yet remains rather drinkable. Good stuff.

Halt liter bottle pour courtesy of Paul Unwin, thanks Paul!! It pours out clear brilliant deep copper with ruby hues and tan head. The aroma is rich yummy sweet malts, earthy hops, some pine hops and more earthy goodness at the end of the draw. The taste is right up my alley with a smooth modest level of pine hops mixing with sticky firm malt sweetened earthiness and some floral hops thinly ringed around the edges. This is goooood stuff.

500 ml bottle. 356. BB 21/Jun/14. (Alko) Kuopio, Finland. Clear darkish red colour with a small off-white head. Fruity sweet hops, sweet malt, dark fruits and mild spices in the aroma. The flavour is hops, mild bitterness, dry fruits, sugary sweetness and sweetish malt. Rich. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a beautiful deep rusty orange with a thick densely packed vanilla coloured head that leaves early delicate lace. Rich caramel aroma, slightly earthy, with hints of spicy fruit. Very malty palate, toast and toffee with quince and cherry fruit. Woody and spicy notes, mild bitterness. Full-bodied, chewy, with a pleasantly warming finish. Like a baby barley wine! Delicious!

Fine appearance, amber and a big lacing head. Lots of sweetness in the aroma, and in the start of the flavor. The flavor finish with a bitterness. Overall a beer that really has aroma and flavor to the full.

KyotoLefty (6504) - Kyoto, JAPAN - DEC 11, 2008
Big aroma of oranges, caramel, molasses, alcohol, dried fruits, and hops. Deep orange and amber color with a minimal but sturdy head. Sweet, caramel malts, with dried fruits, orange, cherry, a touch of tobacco, alcohol and just enough hops to keep it from cloying. Nice residual sugars, tasting like molasses. Nice balance, sweet but not overly so. Great winter warmer.
