COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special.
Classic mild ale making a welcome return to the bar nearly 10 years after it was last sold in the UK. The beer is rich, dark and packed with subtle sweet, caramel and nutty flavours.

Full pint on cask. Very dark, deep red- tinged. Off-white head. Dry aroma with malt and dark fruits. Flavour has also got hints of dried fruit, dark chocolate and roasted grain. Short bitter ending. Alright for a low alcohol strength mild ale (The Portland Arms, St Albans 28.09.2006).

Cask/gravity at The St Albans Beer Festival 27 Sep 06. Dark red coloured. Almost black. A tiny head. Caramellish aroma. Sweet taste dominated by caramel. Some bitterness little by little.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2009 Cask conditioned - handpump - Leicester Gateway - Leicester. A muddy purple/black coloured beer served in less than perfect form. The aroma was very apply and clearly not right. The taste was a litttle sour and there were vinegar notes. A little bit of lightly roasted malt was tucked away in the background but all in all a pretty dire experience.Score 1.9

Cask in Croyden. Clear dark amber brown with a bubbly cap. Aroma is quite dry, of smoke, plumb and toffee. The flavour is a little thin as you would expect, but shows some smoke and toffee. Weak bitterness, with little hop flavour. The finish is a little sweeter than the aroma would suggest, quite smooth though.

Cask conditioned @ Guide Dog, Soton. An inviting ruby colour. Some nutty caramel and smooth roasted malts. There is some sweetness which fades away quite quickly. A smooth easily drinkable mild, not bad.

Cask at Mad Bishop & Bear, London W2. Back for Fullers Autumn ’06 "festival"-this latest incarnation seems fuller bodied & creamier than i remember. Still a rather straightforward dark mild though.

Dark brown color. Light aroma, caramel. Soft mouthfeel, quite good body, some caramel flavor, light chocolate malt. Easy but ok.

2005-05-20, cask conditioned at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen, 6-3-6-3-12=30
Very dark color. The aroma is light. The mouthfeel is quite thin, but with a pretty harmonious combination of roasted malts and hops.

(On tap) Very dark, almost mahogany, with a vague reddish hue. Clear and filtered, pretty much without any head. Weak notes of malt, but otherwise incredibly light-bodied. Rather watery with a decent, hoppy finish. I was told that "Milds" used to be way stronger - up to 6% - but the alcohol was lowered during the 1st world war so the workers wouldn’t cause terrible accidents in the munitions industries.... 210505
