This limited edition brew is a unique collaboration between brewery and beer writer. Melissa Cole brought her vast experience to the tasting table and helped us deliver a stout worth writing home about.

Brewed in the traditional style that became a favourite royal court, this limited edition Imperial Stout has been specially created as a single brew. In a unique addition to the historic recipe, the floral character of the Centennial hops is enhanced by the inclusion of rose buds, lending a hint of Turkish delight flavour to the beer. This Imperial Stout has a rich, dark appearance with strong chocolate and deep cherry notes which lead to a lighter, bitter finish.

[7136-20150312] 500mL bottle. Roasted malty chocolate grains and dark plum fruit aroma. Hazy, dark cola brown black body with a quick foamy light brown head. Sour grainy malt and roasted coffee prune flavour. Full body. Good but a little sour for the style. (7/3/8/4/15) 3.7

Flaska från SB, snart två år gammal. Stor rund söt IS där lagringen börjat märkas lite. Torkad frukt, särskilt russin, fudge, chokladfondant, kaffe. Relativt lättdrucken, silkeslen och riktigt god.

Pours ink black with a quickly receding brown head. Spare aromas of caramel, milk chocolate, and burnt sugar. Flavours bring treacle, semi-sweet chocolate, and caramel with really interesting floral note in the late palate. The thin body quickly turns full with a long, bitter finish.

Maker: Fuller, Smith & Turner PLC (Fullers), Chiswick, London *** Beer: Imperial Stout (bottled, 500ml) *** Style: Imperial Stout *** ALC.VOL.: 10.7% *** "Brewed in the traditional style that became a favourite royal court, this limited edition Imperial Stout has been specially created as a single brew. In a unique addition to the historic recipe, the floral character of the Centennial hops is enhanced by the inclusion of rose buds, lending a hint of Turkish delight flavour to the beer." [brewery notes] *** Colour: Pitch black, medium, fluffy brown head. *** Nose: Bitter chocoloate, treacle, some roasted malt, black cherries. *** Texture: Full bodied, not very oily though. Mild carbonation. *** Taste: Sweetish toffee, notable black cherries balanced by strong roasted coffee malt. Malty in the middle, with roasted notes, some dark chocolate. Cherries now muted, but return for the finish, which otherwise is dominated by coffee notes. Bittersweet, long lasting aftertaste with coffee and milk chocolate. *** Impressions: As formidable an imperial stout as one would expect from this company. Lots of flavor, lots of layers; carries its high alcoholic volume suprisingly well. Not as heavy as one would think. Highly recommended!

500 ml. bottle @ home. Purchased @ Malt Attacks. BBF 2024. Expensive brew especially for such a big brewery, it does come in a cardboard box which probably cost nothing to make. Blackish very dark brown, only handful of mocha bubbles on the side. Nose is umami syrupy mocha, cheap chocolate syrup, herbal note, good amount of liquorish which is a tad dominant. Taste is liquorish, herbal umami mocha, chocolate, feels rather thin esp. for an RIS of this ABV, big dark fruits, herbal coffee, light anise, plum, a bit boozy, herbal & liquorish finish, cheap chocolate mousse, light roast,.. A bit thin with soft carbonation. Good & certainly different from most RIS on the market. This may or may not be more representative of an old school English RIS but while it certainly wasn’t bad, I have to admit to vastly prefer the modern thick sweet coffee & chocolate ones as opposed to this one is rather light more liquorish, soy sauce & dark fruit forward. It does grow on you.
