3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2003 Golden brown color. Small white head. Aroma of hops. Taste is also of bitter hops and nothing else. I didn't get any of the fruit characteristics others noticed, and that is a quality I like in an ipa. One dimensional and disappointing, I expect better things from this brewer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Why is this called an IPA? It's not that bad, but is extremely weak compared to a typical IPA. Nice copper color with small retaining head and little lace. Kind of water with caramel malt flavor. Almost like a weak amber with a medium hoppy finish

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Caramel colored medium amber w/ good head retention and lacing given the apparetly low carbonation. Malty toffeew/ a light tobacco hop aroma and a moderate diacetyl(buttery). Also has a hint of toastiness. Malty and bitter hop flavors balance very well and finishes to the decidedly lingering bitterness, but it's not a harsh bitterness. Fruity, caramel/toffee (diacetyl)buttery are more apparent as it warms than they are in the aroma. Aftertaste is very clean. Medium bodied with low carbonation like it was served out of a cask, but this was filtered since there was no yeast cake, also has a dry mouthfeel. I was expecting a little more ABV for an IPA, but it's a very nice session beer that I could get used to drinking a lot of due to the complexities of this smaller version of an IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice deep amber. Mild hops aroma. Nice off-white head. Classic IPA in that it isn't all that agressivly hopped. Hints of citrus (?grapefruit). A very nice IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Has a great amber color with little carbonation and a hop smell. Taste is little malted at first and finishes with typical hop flavor, but I also taste a bit of honey sweetness in it. Overall not a bad IPA.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Reddish copper with a head that sustains kinda like a hot spring. Bit of a smoky grass aroma. The flavor is full-bodied, oakey, nutty, woodsy, with a hint of smoke and well rounded. An excellent ale with an 'old world' character.

A definite classic that all have tried to replicate. The way IPAs were supposed to be brewed. Just enough
hoppiness to keep it fresh for the long journey to the sub-continent. Elegant pour, with just the
right amount of fluffy white head. Aroma is very subtle and may have been dampended by the
frozen glass that the waitress served this in - but detect citrus notes. Stays strong throughout - excellent
accompaniment to a meal - taste does not overpower like sone American IPAs tend to do.
