3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nuffield (3090) - Roseville, USA - JUN 19, 2004
Amber color, a decent head in my pint glass. Moderate carbonation, decent malty palate. Caramel aroma, a bit of fruitiness, just the way I like an English beer. Mild flavor, definitely malty, ringing of caramel, woodiness, perhaps a touch of vanillla, some dark fruit. A mild bitterness in the finish marks it out as an IPA. I get a kick out of reading the comments of others who note that this doesn’t taste anything like the IPAs they’ve had in America. They’re absolutely right--English IPAs are a different ball-game, being far more malty and far less interested in hop tea infusions. I was fooled by this the first time I had an English IPA, so the expectations-versus-reality problem is understandable. Whether or not this is a good thing is up to you, but I happen to really appreciate the more balanced approach, giving a tinge of bitter bite after a malty front. Very drinkable, went excellent with homemade pizza, was good both cold from the refridgerator and when it was warm to room temperature. Long live the English IPA!
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mzaar (445) - Varberg, SWEDEN - MAY 23, 2012
Härligt ljusorange skum, som varar länge. Doftar mycket beska. Har också fin beska i smaken, men också en viss vattnighet. Detta gör att ölen känns lite tunn... lite avslagen. Men på det stora hela; helt okey.

From tp at Copenhagen Beer Festival: fresh and complex with hints of oranges and raspberries. Well balanced. Splendid stuff, could easily sink a few at a classic English pub!
