50cl, typically sturdy Fuller’s bottle, as shown. Pours a clear, deep mahogany with a medium-sized, soapy light beige head. Limited retention, but more than decent lacing. Blackberries are evident on the nose, but the aroma is not overly sweet, as the fruit are balanced by malty and yeasty notes. Pleasently subtle fruit beer nose, on the whole. Medium-bodied bitter with very moderate carbonation, full, but not especially creamy mouth feel. If you expect anything like the cloyingly sweet fruit of many Belgian fruit beers, you’d be on the wrong track! Rather, "Jack Frost" tastes much like the same company’s famous London Pride, but with a ring of blackberries surrounding and augmenting the broady malts, subtle hop notes and general lightly caramelly flavours of that beer. The fruit are clearly there, but they’re beautifully integrated into the mix - which results in something different from a regular bitter, but a brew that is still, essentially and fundamentally, a beer. While fruit beers are not my favorite type, I must confess that this is a very fine akle - once again, Fuller’s have come up with something special that still doesn’t betray their tradition.

BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 10, 2012
brown 500ml bottle, best before 15 Jan 2012, poured into a UK pint sleeve in Sep 2011. Auburn body with a cream/off-white head of bubbles. The smell was of dark red berry pie, fruits and pastry combined to give a distinct and different aroma to your average beer. Tart in both ways, meaning sharp and fruity, the taste was the same, an alcoholic fruit tart. Really liked it, interesting, well blended and certainly unusual.

A clear orange color with a short lived off white head. Quite malty, nearly rock candy sweet scent. Has a good balance, dances between sweet and has that Fuller’s mineral saltiness to it. Can’t quite pull blackberries from it but does have that somewhat fruity quality. Decent tangy finish.

500ml bottle bought at Sainsbury’s Pimlico, London in late July last year. Good looking with its bright, rusty brown body under a decent off-white head, leaving dotted spots behind. Mild aroma of dark malts and dark fruits. Well blended flavour displaying berries, caramel malts and resin-like fruits as well as a spicy touch. Resinous bitterness to the aftertaste. Rounded mouthfeel. Nice (Tromsø, New Year’s Day 2012).
