Cask-conditioned at the Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington 29/12/08. Reddish brown with a decent off-white head. Aroma of caramel and berry fruit. Flavour started sweet, with a hint of oak, leafy hops and some tart fruit in the finish. Drinkable.

Cask. Deep amber color bit an airy head that disappears. The nose is of dark fruits - plum, cherry, caramelised apples. The taste is a bit wet and sweet, light hop finish but not bitter. The mouthfeel’s medium and a bit wet. Overall, an OK seasonal from fullers.

much better than the ratings would have you believe. Drinks like a 6%er, so I was surprised to see the 4.5% listed here. Lots of body from the crystal malts and the berries are a nice little addition. Very English and very well done from probably my favourite English brewery.

A mahogany pour with ruby-golden highlights and but a bubble of watery head. The aroma is of rich malts and winter fruits; raisins, plums, dates and a twist of orange. These carry through onto the palate, where the beer veers towards the sweeter fruits. There is however a touch of bitterness to balance it out. The mouth feel is flat and thick. For a finish we get a development of apples, cinnamon and grapes with a lasting rounded maltiness. Nice, easy drinking stuff.

Cask @ Christian Firtal, Odense. Pours dark amber with a small creamy white head. Fruit and malts. Dry and floral. Bit of buiscuit and berries. Smooth and soft. Easy drinking. Good

Cask at Queens Head, Stokholm. Almost clear amber. Buttery nose. Fairly sweet, light-medium bodied with chewy caramelly malt and butterscotch dominating. Some slight cardboard, low bitterness.

Pint, no real head. Brown ruby colour, no real head, hazy. Very malty smell, some hops but they were drowned by the malt. Tasted like watered down London Porter, same raisin burst but body is not as thick. Quite smooth, goes down ok, could be one to session.

Cask at The Six Bells, Thame, Oxon, 16.12.10 Pours red amber with fast departing white head. Fruity with a berry tanginess, medium bitterness, quite robust for the strength. It’s been a long time since I’ve had this on handpump (Marsh Harrier, Cowley back in the late nineties probably) Likeable beer and served in very good nick. A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.6

Reddish amber of color with a off white head. An aroma of prunes, raisins, honey and cockies. A flavor of sweets, bread, dry, malty and weak dark fruits.

Cask pint at Volo (sampled on Jan 20, 2010). Was pretty late in the night when I had it, so my notes were sparse: "Nice amber, balanced aroma and flavour, not much to say, just a good UK ale". I subsequently tried it again elsewhere when my palate was a bit fresher, and didn’t find much else to say/write - it’s just a good, solid, drinkable ale. (Oh, and I didn’t notice any blackberry flavour, didn’t even know that it was brewed with them until I saw the listing here...)

[2721-20100123] Tap. Buttery celery grains aroma. Clear, amber orange body with a quick bubbly white head. More grainy butter in the flavour like caramel with a long-lasting sweet aftertaste. Medium body is thick. Very smooth. "A very English malt profile."
