Bottle pour is coffee-black. Light, malty, cocoa nose. Palate is rich, dark, pumpernickel bread, finishing off dry and refreshing. Overall, an outstanding porter.

Drink cool 10-12°C. Eye: Pours a dark but clear reddish-brown with a small white and rapidly dissipating head and almost no carbonation. Nose: very complex in the nose. smells sweet but lots of dark roasted malts as well. coffee, sweets, also fruit but nothing distinctive really, spices and licorice in the end. Mouth: dark bread, pumpernickel, roasted hazelnuts, just a bit watery and metallic and just one sip. Palate: hazelnuts and dark malts. Overall: very nice porter, but unfortunately not the best or finest in the world, had better ones for my taste. not as complex in the mouth or palate and couldn’t get fruit except for the nose.

In bottiglia. Colore marrone scuro, con qualche riflesso rubino. Schiuma poco presente e poco persistente.

On tap. Pours a deep brown with a tan head and lacing. It has a solid dark malt and toast aroma with a flavor that is malty with a great toast and coffee finish over a medium, smooth body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle poured in a chalice. Super-classic British Porter. Simple and delicious beer. A: Pours a clean dark brown color with a big and bubbled beige to brown head which disappears leaving many lacings around. Beautiful S: Simple. Roasted malts, basically T: Wonderful. Smooth. Deliciously bitter. Brown bread, some notes of chocolate. Roasted malts, yeasts and hops in the end M: Light to medium body. Refreshing. Medium carbonation D: High. This is a fantastic beer. Really recommended [ BA Review @ 9/11/2010 ]

Vloeibaar hout. Een heel straf, donker, eentonig bier. Je moet hiervan houden.

Hard to argue with the ratings on this beer. Complex and rich while avoiding the unbalanced overly complex character of lesser porters.

Delicious, sweet porter with lots of roast and chocolate flavours coming through. Nice. Tasting at Plonk.

Single from total wine and a tick off the most ratings list. This one may not be as good as it rates in my book but it is still a surprisingly good beer. Unique with the roasty malt and bitter English hops on the finish. Lots of bittersweet coffee. Like a lot. Creamy texture. Really nice for being so easily available.

500ml bottle bb10/2014. A velvet deep oak brown to black pour, faint beige but lush cap. Immediately appealing aroma of wood-cured molasses, liquorice, tar, filter coffee. This pleasantness turns into sheer, hands-down revelation upon taking a first sip of this bodied, yet creamy, light velvet Wiener mélange of a porter that pushes all buttons: bitter chocolate meets cigar tobacco, strong espresso and charred red berries. Elegant finish adding some distinct hop character and combining all those flavours in a dry coda, preparing you for the next sip or new glass. World class.
