SorenE (110), , New Zealand Apr 20, 2009 500 ml bottle. pours dark brown with a reddish hue and a spritzy looking tan head. bready chocolatey aroma. flavour is toasty, malty, mellow chocolate (that enhances in the aftertaste). taste a better than in smells for sure. medium body and bitterness after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Apr 20, 2009 12-oz. Thanks, Skoi! This one had a long and storied history before it finally wandered home with me tonight. Nice to finally crack it. Pours ebony with rubied brown highlights and shows, even after over a year and a half in the bottle, a nice thick and creamy tan head. Nice big coffee nose, black bread there as well. Nice creamy body, substantive without being dense or overly cargo-ish. Plenty of wooly carb showing as well. Coffee, black bread, dark cocoa, and a bit of baking chocolate on the mid-palate. Long cocoa-y finish. Lovely stuff. edelbrauer (57), Rügen, Germany Apr 18, 2009 Bottle, cherry brown color with a little peach colored head, heavy malty aroma, some roasted notes mainly chocolate, creamy palate all the way that just in the end dries out. very pleasant aroma of brownie, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and fudge, indeed very complex. excellent! CanIHave4Beers (835), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Apr 15, 2009 Pours a deep ruby red with a nice medium light tan head with just a touch of lace. The aroma is nice nutty roasty and full of sweet malt. The flavor is even nicer with lots of chocolate molasses and a pronounced nuttiness
There are some good balancing hops here but this is much more about the delicious roasty malts. A very nice porter indeed.
boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 13, 2009 Can... Poured deep brown with a big, khaki head. Roasted aroma of coffee beans, cocoa and malts. Soft, smooth and creamy palate with noticeable coffee notes up front cocoa malts and nutty, earthy hops. Chocolate, mocha and coffee in the finish. missing (72), Wichita, Kansas, USA Apr 13, 2009 A dark brown with a thick tan head. More coffee than chocolate with a slight "off" biterness (not hops). Also, had a slightly gritty mouthfeel. Not bad but not the best porter. hallinghansen (263), Odense SV, Denmark Apr 5, 2009 On tap at C4. Dark brown body, with almost no head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt and some chocolate. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, hops and hints of tobacco. Better than expected. bedainedebiere (274), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada Apr 3, 2009 100th rating: I thought about rating the most unsignificant beer but I went with a world class beer instead. I was sure it would be highly rated on the site but maybe not that much. It is indeed the best porter I ever had yet. Aroma of those "brown sweet gummy tool candies" (!), coffee and smoked malt. Although the taste is deliciously chocolaty (dark) and fruity, and then coffeish with a lot of espresso-like bitterness in the aftertaste, all these well-balanced flavors wouldn’t be as impressive without its rich and creamy texture. I made a rather long car trip in order to get it... I should have bought more than 3! 3,65$ for a 500 ml bottle.
