cluny6 (115), Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England Apr 3, 2009 Dark brown with medium tan head. Aroma roasty, malty with lots of coffee and chocolate. Taste is medium bitter, some sour chocolate and lots of coffee. Good body and a nice finish. Not very complex but a good beer nonetheless. A coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Apr 2, 2009 pour is a dense black with a foamy finger high head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Palate is a bit smooth....but I need to remind myself its not an Imp. stout...Light notes of milk chocolate, coffee and very faint hints of dark fruit. A bit of nut flavor hiding in there.
Good. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 2, 2009 Bottle courtesy of hellbilly. Deep brown color pour with some red highlights and a small tan head. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Flavor is big on cocoa and dark roast coffee. A bit of bitterness on the finish. Very nice. Thanks Josh! Sparky27 (1567), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours clear dark reddish brown with a 2 finger dense tan head that results in chunky lacing. The nose is milk chocolate and roasted malt. The taste is ashy cocoa, chocolate, roasted malt and burnt coffee beans. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Good porter. joe19612 (673), camberley, Surrey, England Mar 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a thick tan head. Plenty of a mild sweet, roasted aroma. Loads of dark coffee and a hint of dark chocolate. The beer finishes with a firm dark chocolate bitterness.
sparky075 (8), Michigan, USA does not count Mar 29, 2009 Very delicious. Let the beer warm so that it brings-out the coffee and chocolate flavors. Always on my good list. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Mar 26, 2009 Finally getting around to rating this classic. Pour is medium to dark brown with a small tan head that fades. Aroma and flavor of caramel malt, roasted malt, and smoke. Very English tasting. Good, but not my favorite cup of tea. DunkelMeister (7), Fremont, California, USA does not count Mar 26, 2009 Beautiful in color. Touch of caramel on the nose @ first sniff. Complex flavors of coffee, caramel, and a hint of smoke fill up the entire palate front to back. A fine, fine English Porter.
