Rustyham (552), miami, Florida, USA Mar 13, 2009 Lovely porter- great nutty/chocolatey smell. Only problem I have is the smokiness- never liked smoky beers. Luckily, that seems to fade as it warms, allowing more caramelly flavors to take over. $4/bottle at Zeke’s on Miami Beach hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 12, 2009 Pours dark with a tan head. Aroma is very much roasted malts with a little vanilla and maybe a hint of coffee. Flavor is very nice with the roasted malts being the most abundant in presence along with some chocolate and vanilla. Really quite tasty. Very nice full mouthfeel for a lower abv beer, or for any beer for that matter. It’s just a little more unexpected and thus pleasant here. Really good beer. watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Mar 11, 2009 pours very black with a thin light mocha colored head. aroma has roasty malt, coffee and vanilla. flavor is very malty and roasty with coffee, caramel, fig, and chocolate...maybe some dark fruits too. mouthfeel is creamy and smooth with a roasty finish that has subtle coffee. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Mar 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head. Heavy carbonation. Aroma is of coffee, malt, vanilla, brown sugar, and chocolate. Taste is of malt, lightly roasted coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and brown sugar. All of the flavors blend well without anything being too powerful. Body is light due to the carbonation. Mouthfeel is very creamy thick. A very drinkable porter. BillyMidnight (41), Alberta, Canada Mar 8, 2009 Like an e e cummings poem unexpectedly uttered by a coal miner on a bitter cold day. Looks like a glass of liquid obsidian and smells like black coffee and burnt oak. You brace for a harsh taste, but instead it comes on gently, warming you with a chocolate flavour. Leaves a bitter aftertaste that reminds you of better times. This is what unrelenting, stubborn hope tastes like. curly (549), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Mar 6, 2009 Updated: Jul 11, 2009Pours a dark brown with copper edges. Minimal brown head. Roasted chocolate aroma along with a good roasted taste and creaminess. Finishes with a bitter coffee flavor. A bit thin but it is English. RyanMM (46), Ferndale, Michigan, USA Mar 5, 2009 Nice, full body. Almost too creamy, but still very good. Incredibly smooth. Gary (352), Buckinghamshire, England Mar 5, 2009 Updated: Oct 13, 2009Big bubbley beige top sits above dark dark ruby...notes of Fuggles are way out there and glide up your braincells. an earthy , bitter chocolate dryness coats your gumbs in a warming way. Ive grown a bit bored of Porters . I use to really dig this ale , now i find it lacks some complexitey and is a bit shallow. A nice drink..but not my style these dayz.
