4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Nutty, semi-sweet bakers-chocolate-like taste, thin head, but it is smooth and I will say this one does the trick when you canít find your favorite impossible to find world-class porter!

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2006 This is the only porter Iíve had. When I first opened it I thought "what the heck is that great smell?" Well Iím assuming its hops and this beer is GREAT. Iíve never had a beer quite like this. I drank it down fast and wished I had bought more. Big tan head, silky creamy mouth feel and great malt and hops flavor balance.....a must have.
RE-RATE: Its still the best porter Iíve had. and Iíve had a bunch now.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Thus far, I have never had a Porter that comes remotely close to comparing with this one. Pours black cherry red when held up to the light, with about an inch think light tan head. The aroma was heavy butterscotch, chocolate, and caramel x10. I was not expecting that fullness in the nose at all. Made me so anxious to taste it, I got the chills HAH. The taste is dry chocolate and roasted malts, but with an immediate chewiness in the mouth noticable even before swallowing. Definately can taste the flavors that are in the nose. The mouthfeel is what sold me on the perfection of this Porter. I couldnít believe how creamy it was. My tongue was confusing it with the thickness or smoothness of melted butter. Can taste mellow hop notes as it finishes. All in all, I havenít decided, but this very well be my favor brew to date, everything just fit right with it.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
very close to perfection. BIG foamy, creamy, rocky light tan head that lasts, with lots of lace. Very fragrant - loads of chocolatey, roasty, malty, hints of leather and dark earth. Very smooth and creamy mouth filling. Well balanced flavors that taste the way it smells. Very dark mahogeny brownish red. Excellent!! Had a bottle last night at Bodega.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Body is a nice garnet, head is tan and small. Aroma of toffee, butterscotch, bitter coffee, and some chocolate. Flavor has notes of bakers chocolate and caramel, a lot of coffee roastiness, but the palate is quite thin. Finish is dry and sweet. Rather disappointing.

Medium to full body. Creamy mollases, coffee, chocolate. Good head that quickly diminishes. Soft carbonation and long bitter finish. Almost as good as Sam Smith Porter.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2005 (12 oz bottle) Pours almost completely opaque ruby with almost no head at all. Smells strongly of sweet malts and cocolate. Caramel and roasted malts rule the taste. Good bitter finish. A little to sweet.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Iíve had this both on tap and in bottle. Delicious either way, but prefer tap. less carbonation on tap and the flavors are mellowed out too.Very dark porter (atleast darker and richer than St. Peters Old Time Porter) Earthy hazelnut, caramel, mild chocolate notes. Mild bitterness, nice finish. Cheers!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Roast, chocolate and caramel w/ a slight hint of citrus on the nose... and the same on the mouth, this beer poured a deep brown color w/ purple/red hues; thin lasting head and lacing. The mouthfeel was creamy, but slighly watery, well-rounded and full.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a very dark brown, aroma of molasses with a hint of coffee. Very dark in a glass, head keeps well, very balanced flavor or strength and bitterness. No lingering after-taste like some domestic (USA) porters. Best Porter I have had to date.
