Bottle- "Best By" date:April 27 2002. Poured on 7-17-03.
Fantastic smelling blackish-red liquid with thin khaki head, smells absolutely marvelous, coffee and hops, tastes the same with a bit of raisen and a touch of wine. Very very nice. Perhaps my favorite beer EVER.

10+ for aroma...soy sauce...BEST EVER! Black with off-white head. Flavor was of burnt coffee and chocolate. This is a great beer... my only complaint is that it was just a little too burnt tasting... don't read too much into that though because this is one of the best beers I have ever had!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
(sampled draught at Bishops Arms, Stockholm, Sweden) Dark brown, almost black with creamy pale brown head. Coffeish aroma with some gentle hops, dark chocolate and smoke. Flavour is awesome; black coffee, cacao with a pleasing bitterness of soy and english hops. A great and complex porter.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Chocolate, coffee, burnt sugar, and sweet malt give this reddish brown porter its fragrance. It doesn't have much head, but has a nice, small lace. Starts sweet on the tongue, but finishes with a medium hoppy bitterness. Clean but slightly alcoholic finish. Creamy, thick. This is a wonderful beer--quite possibly one of the top five or ten in the world.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
I prefer a bit more hop in my porter. This was definately creamy and smooth especially on hand pump. Since I also prefer a bit more carbonation this was not gonna score high for me.

nice chocolate flavor, perfect looking beer, nice fat head and dark brown color, nice and smooth my only wish is that it would have more alcohol in it

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2003 A red brown color. It has a very small cream-colored head and big bubbles. The smell is coffee, malt, and milky. Super smooth and creamy with exaggerated coffee flavors. Did I say creamy! It's like having some very good dark coffee and milk, but with a malt and alcohol kick. Excellent!

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is an excellent porter - very smooth - but coffee aromas and flavors overwhelmed. I'll have to give this one a second chance in the future.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2005 Dark ruby/brown color, the head was moderate but creamy. Aroma quite pronounced and chocolatey. Medium to full bodied, lightly carbonated, fudge and coffee flavors. The finish was smooth and mellow, just a little bitterness. Everything just seems to work so well together that this porter will have to be my benchmark for the style. An almost perfect beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Crystal Clear, it is hard to see through it this beer is so dark. Red black in color with a small but nice head that died young. Aroma of bitter chocolate and molasses. Medium bodied with a perfect balance between the bitterness of roasted malts, hops and the sweetness of malt. Chocolate, burnt sugar and a mild malty sweetness. The flavor comes on strong right way followed by a clean finish. This is the perfect porter
