Bottle. Under a short lasting off-white head, this beer appears dark brown. Coffee, chocolate and some sweet notes in the aroma. The taste is roasted malts, coffee and some fruit (plum?). A little nice bitterness in the end. A great porter.

18.6oz bottle. Best before 14 Feb 05. 51.5į. NB Worthy glass. Dark brown, nearly black with red tint. Small off white head that subsides quickly, leaving a small ring of foam and bubbles. Great nose of vanilla, chocolate, roasted malt, it has a rather sweet nose with some subtle hops notes of a more floral nature. Taste is roasted/nearly burnt malt with a fruity/hoppy base. There are notes of coffee, vanilla (oak?), herbal (almost cola-like), fruit peels and a slight sourness. Even though this has the nose of a big beer, the mouthfeel lets you know that it is not, which is one of the only weak points in this otherwise wonderful beer.

Aroma was a wonderful raisen, smokey chocolate, taste was fruity malt, but disappointingly thin. Judging by previous reviews I got a bad bottle, but Iíd take the Bells porter over this any time

Pours dark brown with a flufy tan head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Taste is big on coffee with average amounts of hops. Big time coffee in this one. Rich, full mouthfeel. Lacing that lasts forever. Great porter.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2005 English beauty. Diacetyl out front on aroma yet not over the top. Taste tells a different story. Buttery chocolate malt enhanced by that classic English sourness and bitterness so well delivered by moderate carbonation. English yeast fermentation provides the classic result. Itís been a long time since I last had this one. How many times did I say classic? One more time! Serve at cave temp in a clean pint glass.

Pours an almost opaque black with a medium head. Aromas of roasted chocolate malt and a touch of raisins. Drank this at room temperature to capture the full flavour of roasted malt, a nice burnt taste and coffee.

Bottle. Got this one on trade from kaggie97, thanks Kevin! Pours a dark cherry color with a nice thick head. Not a jet black beer, but a deep black cherry with decent lacing. Nose is awesome with raisins coming quickly, sweet and strong with coffee and burnt sugar. This beer smells like those wonderful raisin cookies that my wifeís Grandma Walters used to make with the sweet dough and raisins mixing wonderfully. Body is medium, which surprised me a little as I expected more from it. Little to no carb (itís an English brew, what should I expect?) and I believe that is a fault. Taste is of coffee sweetness when it hits the buds, then sort of slides into a coffee bitterness and a nice creaminess as it warms. You definitely need to let this one warm to a decent temp. I was too eager... Beautiful long finish on the flavors, burnt malts and roasted bliss, but no real hop flavor. Good overall taste, but Iíd like a little more hops. What else is new? Still a quality, kick ass porter.
