ceffalo (38), , Texas, USA Jan 24, 2009 Pours a dark chocolate color with almost no head.
Strong porter like aroma. Very malty.
Deep, smoky, bitter beer. A bit weak on overall flavor. Complex but too tame. The reputation is not well delivered with the flavor.
altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jan 24, 2009 Bottle in London. Dark brown body with large head. Nice nose of malt and chocolate. Same with the taste. Bitter as well. Nice beer. Cole (266), , Alberta, Canada Jan 22, 2009 from the bottle. Pours thick and dark with thick head. Comlex aroma, roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is very nice, a little bitter, chocolate, and raisins in the after taste. I like this porter, it’s well balanced and very drinkable. Smooth as can be with a flavor dominated by roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and coffee. A really top-notch porter. Deserving of its hype. blklab2007 (938), Connecticut, USA Jan 15, 2009 bottle poured a cola brown color with a thin light tan head. aroma has chocolate malt, light roast, underlying sweetness, and mild coffee. mouth feel is medium and coats well. flavor hits with chocolate and brown malt, slightly roasted, bitter coffee hit, and some light nuttiness. super smooth and easy drinking with a nice coffee and chocolate play. i could see this being real special on draft. MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Jan 12, 2009 16oz can poured into an English pint glass. FLP pours dark brown with a medium-sized persistent head that is creamy and nitro-like. The aroma is heavy in rich chocolate, very mild coffee and light hops. The body is moderately thick and extremely smooth. The creamy head adds a wonderful quality that is very difficult to beat. The taste follows the aroma closely and includes chocolate and cappuccino. This is probably the best porter I have had.
