wonderful toasty, roasty aroma. Crisp, clean and slightly chocolaty. A top notch porter.

I LOVE THIS PORTER! it's every thing I love about a porter. Rish rosted choclate taste, full body ,not too bitter, great color. Smells great when you're pouring it into the glass. My favorite part is about half way down. that's when the most of it's flavor shines....I am a porter man!

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2009 Flavors are of smoked chocolate, and very very rich. Palate is left tingling, and caked with a sweet chocolate taste. Not as smooth as my favorite porters, but still has a magnificant fullness.

Dark color. Very roasty, and coffee-like flavor, with slight chocolatey sweetness. Not too thin, but still goes down easy.

I tink this may well become the standard that I measure porter's by. Deep reddish brown with a nice full head. Choclaty nose. Strong roasted malt flavor in front with slight bitterness in the finish. Surprisingly light mouthfeel for something this dark.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2003 (Bottled) Deep brown color, medium head. Roasted, chickory/coffee flavor, some barkiness, with a noticeable hops presence. Make sure you have a clean palate before drinking - taste suffered significantly when I didn't.

Almond, malt and chocolate nose. Dark brown - reddish color with a medium, hazelnutbrown, foamy head, leaving brussels laces. Light roasted, malty, chocolatey bitterness, very almond like (nutty). Light long lasting profile. Thanks a lot Captain Cougar!!!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Toasted peaty nose, dark opaque brown color, low tight lacy head. Deep roasted malt taste. Almost smokey. Maybe chocolate in the middle. Dry expresso bitterness that lingers forever. Thinner than expected and kind of monodimensional, but fun and certainly enjoyable.

This is what a porter should be to me. It has great color and a slight coffee/ chocolate flavor. Easily drinkable and very deserving of the accolades it has received.

Best by February 8, 2003 (September 10, 2002 tasing notes): Absolutely delicious with delicate yet substantial chocolate and a hint of coffee flavor. Hugely refreshing for a porter; re-thinking Anchor's rating (Hmmmm... Nah!)
