Vanilla bean, sweet chocolate, bready malts and a slight hint of fruity esthers makeup the inviting aroma. The body has an almost nutty overtone that ties it together. The chocolate malt in this is just scrumptious, working nicely with the subtle roastiness and creamy mouthfeel. Very enjoyable from start to finish!

Great porter, dark chocolate/coffee flavor, smooth and silky texture, very dark color (almost black), lingering finish that is almost too oily

At last - the elusive London Porter is mine! 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. Very dark reddish brown colour, large tan head. Aroma is first and foremost dark chocolate, but also rye bread, leather and oak. Flavour is again chocolate on a nice roasty background, decent hops linger in the aftertaste. Clearly a first class beer - Iím sure itís even better cask conditioned.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with ruby hues and a dark brown fully receding head. Aroma of red wine and chocolate. Taste is quite sweet, vinous with subtle roasted malts. There are continous notes of raisins and coffee. Carbonation is low and the mouthfeel is thick and oily. The finish is lingering and has alot of roast with slight bitterness. This beer is quite complex, but Iím not sure how well it meshes together.

Quite good; sampled from a hand pumped keg (cask? probably keg, US location). Just the right combination of bitter and sweet.

Bottle. Pretty darn tasty. I have not really liked many of the Fullers/Youngs/Samuel Smiths (I donít know why, but I clump them together) that I have tired so far, this one was very good though.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2005 Bottle: Pours a deep dark brown with a thick pillowy layer of tan head. Chocolate, coffee, and smoke are in the nose. Lots of roastiness. Very silky textured, goes down smoothly. Lightly carbonated. Flavors are mostly chocolate and coffee, but there is a good bit of molasses sweetness to it. Finsihes like it starts; smooth, creamy, and rich. Good stuff, cheap, and widely available.
