Aroma is a mix of sweet and roasted malt with notes of caramel and milk chocolate. Medium, smooth body. Flavor is again, sweet and roasted, but also has a smoky quality. Notes of nuts, caramel, and semi-sweet chocolate. I like the subtleness in the flavor, it makes it very easy to drink. But at the same time it has just enough complexity to hold your attention and keep you searching for more. lucke13 (90), Des Moines, Iowa, USA

Pure coffee in the nose...maybe some chocolate. Coffe on the tounge too, but not quite so much as the aroma suggested. Fairly bitter, more like a stout. Thick in the mouth with a long bitter aftertaste. A decent beer, but I’m not too fond of the style. hellbilly (1515), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2008 bottle BB9/16/8 by way of pforei. medium brown color with ruby at the edges topped by a light tan head. aromas of chocolate, cream, light coffee, toasted walnuts, a little wood and near metallic maltiness (the metal aspect disappears as it warms). the flavor is near perfect for a porter (at least a british one!)... coffee, cream, chocolate, wood, light skunky hops, mildly bitter roast and a slight ashiness on the finish. it’s not overly sour and leaves a creamy coffee aftertaste. medium to full body with soft carbonation which gives it a creamy texture. the flavor gets a lot better as it nears room temperature but the mouth feel suffers... | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Another sampler from afire, thanks bud. Poured dark-coffee like with a medium head, nice mellow carbonation through the taste. Chocolate and coffee aromas mix into a malty and slight bitter pallet. Although it has a distinctive character and body it lacks that certain something, rich yet a little week towards the end. All in all well balanced but not the punch I hoped for. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Rating #400. Aroma has coffee and roasted malts. Nice dark brown colour with a small tan head. Flavour has roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Excellent porter! cheapdark (2015), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Mild porter aroma but the olfactory is damp and a little more repulsive. Creamy thin head. Blackish dark brown and not opague. Wet burned wood taste with a whack of alky yet not over the top. Has that old ale flavor. I’m surprised it’s classified as a porter. Nice over all with a gentleman finish that lacks any oppressiveness. doppelmeup (51), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

Very, very dark brown brew with ruby highlights. Half inch off-white head after a vigorous pour. Slowly dissipated, leaving only slight lacing on the glass. This was about the only thing I could find not perfect about this beer.
Smelled of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, some coffee and cream, maybe even some cinnamon toast. Very complex and layered, and it keeps improving as the beer warms. Boy, does this aroma ever make me want to drink this beer!
The taste was fabulous. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, molasses, and just enough hop bitterness to cleanse the palate. The flavors are layered and keep evolving as this beer warms. It is quite possibly the best tasting beer I’ve ever had!
Smooth, creamy, just thick enough to provide great body without being sticky or cloying. Enough carbonation to keep it light without being fizzy. A slight lingering flavor of coffee and dark chocolate that leaves you wanting more and more.
Extremely drinkable. Moderate ABV and awesome flavor makes for a great drinking experience. I wish I had a few more bottles of this available. It is fantastic.
This ranks as one of the finest beers I’ve ever had! I was expecting a good beer, and was pleasantly surprised to find a great beer.
