Carlus12 (361), London, Greater London, England Sep 25, 2007 Deep brown almost black, pours leaving small tan head. Aroma is of chocolate/dark malts. Flavour is of chocolate/toffee/hops. Somewhat thin on palate, but very drinkable. jblendy (518), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Sep 23, 2007 Pours almost black with a small dark tan head. Semi-sweet lactic aroma, with malty notes of melted chocolate, a bit of coffee, and some slight smoky undertones. Flavor follows the aroma quite well, with a bit more coffee than expected. Palate is a bit thinner than than expected, but has a very pleasant mouth-feel, and a decent finish. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Sep 22, 2007 11.2 fl oz from Siciliano’s Market in Grand Rapids, MI. Deep brown almost black color with ruby tint and nicely colored small tan head that kind of looks like a bubbling pancake. Aroma is rich dark malt, coffee, chocolate, a little smoke, and maple syrup. Flavor is very meaty with a lot of smoke, pretty strong coffee at first that fades and is overtaken by the meatiness, very interesting for a porter. Body is too thin for me, but British style porters tend to be too thin in general. Overall a very interesting porter, was actually expecting less. I guess the only big negative is the body and that I’m a vegetarian eating a very meaty tasting beer. puboflyons (589), New Hampshire, USA Sep 22, 2007 11.2 fl. oz (US) bottle with an expiration date of 16 Apr 08. Pours an incredibly dark brown with hints of ruby. Tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and cocoa and little hint of smoke. Taste is similar with a strong mouth feel. A fabulous brew. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Sep 16, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with ruby red highlights. Medium tan head. Nose is Chocolate, toffee and coffee bean. Taste is coffee beans with some sweetness, chocolate ice cream? The coffe flavor howver, is not overwhelming because its balanced with a nutlike flavor with a dash of hops. This was an outstanding Porter. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Sep 12, 2007 12 oz. brown bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a dark chocolate brown, with a robust tan colored head. Aromas are of dark malts, some coffee & toffee notes.
