Great porter. chocolate, coffee, toffee. well balanced. medium to full bodied. very well done BeerFanDan17 (610), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Sep 7, 2007 So THIS is what a Porter is supposed to taste like. You could have this for dessert. The flavors are strong hints of chocolate, malt, coffee, toffee, and toasted varieties. It pours rich and thick with a pleasant head. Great aroma as well. wheninhell (485), louisville, Kentucky, USA Sep 6, 2007 dark brown/black body with a nice brown head that disappears slowly. fantastic aroma. sweet cocoa cake with a hint of coffee and a light touch of some blackberry. meaty notes develop as it warms. deep sweet cocoa cake flavor with tart blackberries spicy black pepper and bitter coffee. great balanced flavor. tart spicy bitter dry finish with a sweet cocoa cake backbone. spicy black pepper lingers. finish almost mouth puckering.....an almost tannic like feel. finish lingers forever spicy and dry with coffee notes medium body. moderate carbonation. great beer. are there tobacco notes in this beer also?.........i could go on forever. yeah pipe tobacco.......this stuff is great. oakbluff (298), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Sep 5, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Piscator34. Pours out a cola redish hue, with surprising clarity. Excellent head retention, followed by a nice string of lacing. Nose is of a mild mocha coffee. Taste is medium roast and nuts. Slightly bitter finish from the roasted barley and some herbal hops. Not at all sweet and has a nice body to it. Great example of a sessionable porter. gilvanblight (390), Windsor, Ontario, Canada Sep 5, 2007 Uber dark pour, with a thinly bubbled head. Strong malt scent immediately after pouring. Scent also contains a lot of nuts, nutmeg, chocolat and coffee. Very rich deep smokey taste. Lots of coffee and dark chocolat. A bit of toffy. A hint of raisin. Many nuts, definately some hazelnut. Very apealing taste. A warm nutty aftertaste is left. A very fine beer. Only problem is it’s a bit rich so not an ’easy drinking’ beer. jobyone (234), Charlotte, USA Sep 4, 2007 Wonderfully dark pour. Nice head. Has the roasted malt aroma I expcet in a nice porter. Not to bitter. Good aftertaste. A fine example of an English Porter. Hudspart (371), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Sep 2, 2007 Bottle: Pours back with a small head. Great malt and roasted smell. Taste like it smells. Possibly the best porter that I have ever had. RaphaelN (195), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Sep 1, 2007 On tap at Volo. I was happy to finally come across this beer after months of effortless searching. Smell was of roasted barley and cocoa beans. Flavour followed a similar pattern with roasted barley, coffee, smoke and dark chocolate. Here is the weird thing about this beer. It disappears. Upon the first sip, all the flavours can be experimented with, but it doesn’t round out, or finish. There is no satisfaction in the swallow, it just disappears and makes me wonder if the beer just vanished on my tongue. Leaves a lingering, somewhat unpleasant bitter taste. It’s a good beer, but it would take a really fixed scenario to get me to enjoy this. Figures though, as I greatly disliked Fullers London Pride.
