Porter is probably my favorite style of beer. Mostly because they are low hops and have a dark malty bitterness to them. And Fuller’s London Porter is definitely a good choice if you like porters. Appearance and aroma are fairly typical of most porters, but the flavor is very full bodied. If you’re a light beer fan, stay away from this bad boy. But if you really like bitter malty brews - pick up a six pack of this.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours black with red nyanses and a brown white small lacing head. Nice roasted and licorice notes at first sip following with coffee, some fruity probably raspberry notes and a dark chocolate finish. Many layers of good complex taste. Very nice porter.

Poured from an 11.2 ounce bottle into a snifter. Pours a darker brown with a thin beige head of foam. Aroma has notes of molasses fire roasted cherries, and licorice. Roasty. The taste is toasty and earthy with a dry, fairly dark chocolate bitterness throughout. Just right on the palate. A near sessionable porter.

Aroma struck me as being very smokey, which I wasn’t expecting. Then the roasty and charred smells came and then it was chocolate and coffee. Taste is same with a nice creamy mouthfeel and, surprisingly for its ABV, a bit of warmth in the finish. An extremely balanced beer, so balanced, in fact, that it comes across a little, er, bland, or unadventurous. But, nice beer though, though.

500ml bottle at Cork Cricket Club. Surprised it taken me so long to try this one. Pours a deep brown with a nice big tan head. Aroma is nice blend of coffee, biscuit and chocolate. Medium malt sweetness and a nice roasted bitterness. Smooth, full and roasty finish. Very, very good porter.

Smokey notes, the strength makes it smooth, opens the pallete nicely. Aroma is very smokey too, almost like smoked bacon. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

500 ml bottle bought at Oliver’s The Delicatessen in Central.

Clear deep blackish brown colour; One and a half finger head and lovely crumpety beige foam which last for 1 minute; Sticky lacing and active carbonation; Fragrant aroma of roasted malt, dark coffee, burnt toffee, dark chocolate, sugar and light grass; Pleasant and tasty light sweet taste of dark roast malt, with strong smoke, burnt toffee, black coffee, dark chocolate, very light liquorices, strong nuts, dry biscuits, citrus and strong grassy hops; Medium body, not so thick but really creamy palate; Taste profile is very smoky, nutty, and roasty dark malt with tasty black coffee and light chocolate in a creamy background. Not as rich as Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, but its smooth creaminess is more than made up any deficiency; Hoppiness is moderate to light grassy nose, good limey citrus in taste, and a slow and penetrating light bitterness and astringency last ‘til finish; Fairly dry after taste, very easy and creamy to mouth.

Comments: I know I shouldn’t compare this one with Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, yet they share so many similar characters I think I should give it a fair run with YDCS as a reference. It has really good aroma and taste, esp. the smokiness and nuttiness are simply outstanding. Great creamy mouth feel as expected. Because it’s not intended to turbo - Chocolaty taste, so its cocoa-ness may be not over the roof as YDCS. Plus its body is not quite thick and rich enough. Still, this is a labour of love, true to the tradition, and definitely worth revisiting. Recommended.

500ml bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. Roasty and some smoky aromas. Pours dark, with vanishing tan head, some lacing. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste is malty, roasty, some spicy, a bit watery.

Bottled. Pours pitch dark with a lively tan head. Aroma of prunes, roasted nuts, coffee and chocolate. Quite dry in the beginning, then comes a sweet and fruity part, and the finish is dry again with notes of dark chocolate and coffee, and a sour touch. Low carbonation and a bit of an oily mouthfeel. I have to admit that expected more flavours so I find this a bit flat. But still not bad at all.
