4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Never noticed I hadn’t rated this one yet. A beer I’ve enjoyed quite a few times over the years whenever I could actually find it. Produces up a lustrous, darkest ruby that shimmers when held to the light. At cellar temperature when poured it raises up a thickset, creamy tan head that adheres a frost down the length of the glass. Rich chocolate, Madeira and Kopiko toffee meets earthy, smoky peat, heavy loam and heather on the aroma - so thick and all consuming. Creamy, rounded and smooth on the palate. Rich, burnt sugar front; dark powdery chocolate comes in before a heavily smoky, bitter, charred wood backend. Nice level of earthy hops and malt on the finish. Very long swallow; a continuation of the complex flavours of the palate with inklings of liquorice, Madeira and ash. So much presence, so much volume for a pasteurised, filtered porter of such strength. A lovely brew. One to keep hunting down! (50cL, no date stamp, Liquor Barons, Ocean Reef)

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark brown, tan head. This is one of the best porters I’ve ever had. Great roasty chocolate aroma, sweet malty taste and chocolate finish. Well balanced and medium bodied. Just so good

Roasted malt aroma upfront.
Poured jet black with creamy head
Good bitterness with lovely roasted finish.
Also a touch of vegemite/marmite with a residual metallic note at the back.
All in all a very nice porter.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2016 Pours almost completely black with a beautiful layer of thick foam. Looks magnificent. Aroma is rather fine and delicate - very roasty and chocolatey. Maybe some coffee. Medium body. Flavour is archetypical for a porter and delicious. Loads of chocolate and a well rounded roast flavour. Dark malts come out nicely, beer is quite sweet. Very well balanced with a medium long chocolatey and quite bitter finish. Classic and very good.

I’ll agree with the commercial desciptor - this is top shelf porter. Good weight and depth of flavour with plenty of chocolate and cola coming through. A clear pointer to the gains of pushing over 5% for porter. (Tesco 157 baht)

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma: roasted dark malts (even smoky), burnt malt, caramel, sweet.
Appearance: deep amber color and beige head.
Taste: low bitterness, burnt malt, roasted caramel, semi-sweet
Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish.
Overall: That’s ok, not outstanding beer.

My favourite Fuller’s beer but it’s a shame that it isn’t bottle conditioned. A dark brown, ruby colour with a thin head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate with a rich body. A faint liquorish taste with berry fruityness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours an almost pitch black beer with some translucency and leaves a smallish cream coloured head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is dominated by roasted malts. Coffee, some chocolate, hints of caramel. Tastewise the beer is pretty similar to the aroma. Medium bitterness with strong coffee notes. Leaves a lasting aftertaste of roasted malts. Body is slightly weak compared to the taste, the beer doesn’t really have a remarkable mouthfeel in it. Overall a nice strong flavoured porter, probably one of my favourites. The price (4€ / 500ml bottle) is bit steep though.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark chestnut brown pour, essentially opaque with a medium beige head, decent retention. Nose is coffee, caramel, chocolatey, somewhat diacetyl butterscotch, but in an acceptable English way. Mouth is medium bodied, mild creaminess, light sweetness, coffee, candy, subtle bitterness. Very nice.

Finom gyümölcsös illat, pörkölt jegyekkel. Erős, pörkölt kávés íz, a háttérben egy kis gyümölcsösséggel, és némi komlós mellékízzel. Utóízében a kávés jegyek dominálnak. Közepesen testes.

Bottle 500ml. Aroma: Roasty and a little bit of soy sauce and chocolate. Brown almost Black with a midium, tan head. Taste’s slightly bitter and sour with a light body and fizzy carbonation. Finish is long, mostly coffee like. Overall: Light beer, with strong influence of dark malts. Nice break between IPAs on hot days.
