Aroma is full of chocolate and toffee. No hops on the nose. Dark brown color with an off white head which dissipated quickly. Chocolate, toasty flavor with a touch of licorice on the end. Roast and fruity esters are moderate. No flavor from the hops. Balance is slightly to the bitter side. Mouthfeel is medium body with a creaminess up front that finishes dry. Carbonation is moderate. Overall, a great tasting brown porter. Good drinkability. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml. Bought today @ Waitroise . r8 . For years this was a US export only and now days its as common as Burger King , a bit less generic though . Poured into a pint glass . Nose of chocolate malt ,roast , espresso , creamy suggestions . It looks really good , deep piano colour , two fingers of beige head . As you drink it you recall how easy it is to swill and session , very moreish . Chocolate , roast , a little red wine even . The palate could be thicker if contrasting with US Porters but still a pretty tasty beer.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2015 Dark brown color, with a small beige head. Smell is roasted malts, some coffee, earthy. Taste is first roasted malts, good ones, not at all too roasted but nicely balanced, coffee, some chocolate, even licorice and in the end it comes a nice bitterness from the hops. Good body, nice balance, very good dark ale.

Wygląd: Bezowa, drobno ziarnista, kremowa piana. Opada pozostawiająć na szkle koronkę. Utrzymuje się dość długo. Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta. Aromat: Na pierwszym planie kawa i lekkie kakao. Gdzieś w tle nuty wędzone (chociaż to raczej palone słody, tylko na początku mi się tak skojarzyło), i śliwkowe. Wyczuwalny růwnież jest karmel. Smak: Palone słody, kawa, gorzka czekolada, wanilia. Dość wytrawne i średnio wysycone.

Pours almost black, tan head. Smells of liquorice, espresso, chocolate. Good balance between sour and bitter. Thin body, early ending. Interesting metallic after-taste.

Nicely complex with smooth lightly sappy elements of coffee, roast and chocolate throughout. Development allows for all these tastes to come through individually over the time of the glass though at the same time the beer works as a well balanced whole. Still as good as always.
