4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A fine example of the British style, much different than North American Porters. Fuller’s does a fine job and this brown bear with a crimson streak is no exception. The big tan head releases smokey, roasty, chocolate, light coffee and nutty fragrances. It’s a bit sweet, a bit smoked and with a bitter balance. The curvy, medium/heavy body is like a thinner Guinness. I enjoy drinking it a bit warmer to really get the flavours out of it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Copenhagen 10/2 2016. 50 cl bottle from Meny. A little golden man carrying a stick/pole on the label. A porter I presume. Pours clear reddish dark brown with small off-white head. Disappears quickly leaving only patches of foam. Aroma is dark roasted malts and chocolate. Fairly sweet but not overwhelmingly so. Soft carbonation and slightly thick palate. Taste is pretty rich. A bit on the sweet side without being too much. Caramel, chocolate, a touch of licorice. Pretty mild compared to many porters usually heavy with alcohol. Light bitterness in aftertaste. A very fine shot at the porter style from Fuller.

Bottle into a pint glass. Pours black, with a moderate tan head that fades quickly. Nose is dark roast malt, and the taste follows, with hints of cocoa and coffee. Very well balanced and extremely drinkable. One of the world’s best porters.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into an English pub glass at cellar temperature. Smells roasty and chocolatey, has a solid brown porter look to it. Sure enough you get a bit of coffee and chocolate in this rather thin but smooth porter. If I had to pick a brew that defined this style, Fuller’s would do nicely. Easy drinking and pleasing, quite well balanced, this one’s a keeper.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours beautiful dark brown, black in the glass, with a nice airy head that disappears very quickly. Roasty aroma of coffee and chocolate, as advertised. Light bodied on the tongue. Not much happening but leave it resting in the mouth a couple of seconds and it gives a good, medium sweetness, with some hints of dark chocolate. Thin feel, average carbonation, abrupt finish. No aftertaste. Hyped up as "one of the best" but I beg to differ. Good value.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
500 ml bottle poured at home. Pours a dark brown with a beige head that dies out quickly. Smells like chocolate and malts (I think...stuffy nose). Taste is smooth with notes of dark fruit, chocolate and malt. Good beer.
