4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ReV2 (52) - Northampton, Northamptonshire, - JAN 7, 2013On draught at The Trumpet, Northampton. Glorious real ale. Sweetish with just the right hop balance. Served in good condition, this is an unbeatable ale which I’ve enjoyed for more than 20 years in a number of pubs north to south. The bottled version is nowhere near as good unfortunately.

Cask at Porterhouse Cork. Pours a clear amber gold with a thin white head. Aroma is quite malty, with caramel and straw to the front, but with more unusual tobacco and chocolate notes too. Medium-strong sweetness and only a light bitterness on tasting. Again quite malty, with more caramel and straw coming through. Lingering sweetness with a light body and a nice smooth finish.
