Merton Beer Festival Septí 2004. Used to also drink this every Sunday night at the Marsh Harrier, Cowley, Oxford. Amber in colour, white head , nice malty aroma, a truly wonderful very well balanced flavour of malt, hops with just the right levels of sweetness and biterness, a classic English biter.

Bridge House, Belfast : perfectly clear dark amber beer, good thick pale head, low carbonation. Not much aroma but perfectly balanced hop and malt flavours, absolutely none of the dryness that is so typical these days in similar beers. Very sessionable.

Cask at The Swan, Lancaster Gate. Drank this one plenty of times in the past, so thought Iíd better rate it. It pours clear amber with a decent white head. The nose is toasty grain, brown bread, nuttiness and some sweet caramel/toffee. The taste is a bit bitter upfront, wood, earth, leather, nut, caramel, brown bread, toasty grain and light varnish with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A good gateway cask all. It is well-rounded and drinkable, but relatively uneventful. OK.

Cask at the GBBF 2015. High fluffy white lasting head. Beautiful clear dark amber body. Sweet mild malt fruit caramel aroma. Malt fruit caramel flavor, relatively bitter and dusty with a low carbonation and a long dry and bitter finish.

Great refreshment but lacks distinctiveness , that said better than average main stream beer and a nice tipple, being well balanced and without some of the negative elements some ales in rhis class build up over a few drinks

Cask at the moon under water jdw Watford. Canít believe Iíve not ticked this yet. Light copper coloured pour with a lasting loose off white head. Aroma is nice nutty light caramel Malts dried fruits, raisin, English yeast esters. Flavour is composed of semi sweet nutty bisvuity malts, solid layered malt profile, light caramel notes, dried fruit, berry. Palate is semi sweet, soft, good cask condition. Solid cask bitter. Archetypal for the style.

Nut brown colour with a small dark white head. Noses lightly of caramel, malty with hints of fruity floral hay esters. Lightly carbonated with a light slick texture and a medium body. Good balance between seet and bitter. Medium finish.

Pours dark amber with light brown head. Aroma of caramel, forgettable. Taste is sweet with caramel note and with little bitter dry finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, well balanced bitterness. Surprise.
