3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap: Deep mahogany with a frothy beige cap that laces moderately. Nutty, fruity aroma with lots of yeasty spices and wood. Sweet caramel and sugary, nutty malts are backed by solid almost floral, hop profile. Creamy and soothing, full bodied winter ale. Good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at BeerBistro, prime draught. Very nice complex hoppy bitterness plays long on the palate against a nutty malt and cherry ester backdrop. VERY nice and wintery, I could easily slide into a few full pints of this when Iím feeling better.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the Castle. Pours a nice amber colour with a tiny beige head. Indistinct aroma of various malt, a bit fruity. Taste is the same, a little one dimensional. Thereís some nice caramalt flavour in the aftertaste. It seemed stronger than 5.3% abv to me. More drinkable than other English Strong Ales Iíve had, and enjoyable over-all.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Taps a deep chestnut color with some red highlights, modest cap, soft carbonation.
Aromas are fruity-spicy lightly sweet.
Flavaor is exceptionally discreet in its use of spices and sweet malts...lovely war soft malty sweetness mingles with a spicy-fruity background and demure kent hopping...well balanced without any of the sweetness, spice or hops overpowering the amalgam of all these flavors....franklly the best Winter ale Iíve tasted this year.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark orange red with a white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Nutty malt taste with a sharp bitter finish. Sounds like it ought to be good, but somehow it just didnít quite cut the mustard.

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Shamansburys.
Rich translucent red amber colour, would probably be worth a 4 if it had a head, sadly after just a short while, there is none. Nutty malt aroma with plenty of bready notes and some odd marzipan like stuff. Rather medicinal in the flavour, reminding me a lot of germoline or Bazooka gum. Nice malt, interesting finish but nothing really to shout about. Still, certainly one of the better offerings from Fullers.

Nose of plum, cream, alcohol, syrup and malt. Pours a mahoghany coloured beer with a small head. Some cloying is noticeable. Taste of malt, honey, hops leading to a mildly bitter after taste. A well balanced beer.
