This is a strong amber ale, boasting a sweet, nutty flavour, with rich dark tones from the crystal malts in the all-malt brew. Target hops give the beer its well balanced bitterness, whilst Challenger and Northdown varieties provide a wonderfully hoppy aroma.

A very well balanced ale with both that deep malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness. The best of both worlds and the carbonation was a welcomed surprise and reminded me more of a champagne-like effect. Had a few of these last night at the Sherlock Holmes pub in Aarhus. Great cask overall, and one of the best I’ve ever had

Draught. Not really my taste. Pours a medium brown-orange with little head. Aromas are mostly caramel, gingerbread and molasses with some dates. Tastes of dried fruit with some bitters coming through at the end. Rather soft mouthfeel.

Pours two fingers of head on a clear dark straw body. The aroma is caramel and spice. The taste has nice caramel sweet to start with an interesting bitterness in the middle to end. The texture is smooth with low carbonation. Fairly enjoyable except for the odd bitter flavor.

Dark golden amber with creamy head. Not much aroma, a bit malty. Fruity with that dull minerally flavor characteristic of a British ale. Sweet without being sticky, but ending with a bit of moldy hay.

Cask draft at Khyber Pass. Clear copper pour with a good amount of off-white foam on top. Lost of thick lace. Medium-dark caramel toffee malts. Some ascetic notes in the nose. Brown sugar caramels. Despite the preponderance of musty brown fruit, still feels fairly juicy. Tea. Dates. Figs. Over-ripe pomegranates. Dried peaches. Oak tannins. Nicely complex.

Draught @ Sherlock Holmes, Aarhus. Pours clear copper brown with small off-white head. Dusty aroma with notes of hops and yeast. Bitter and dusty flavour, with notes of yeast and hops. Lingering, bitter and dusty aftertaste. Well-balanced and enjoyable but nothing really mind-blowing.

Cask at the White Horse, Parsons Green on 27 January 2007. Attractive dark coppery colour. Slightly woody aroma with some hints of caramel. Dry and lightly bitter on the palate. Woody edge again. Not a standout but solid enough.
