Slacks (355), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Apr 1, 2008 Draught @ beerbistro, Toronto, ON: Passed up a DFH 60-minute for this one; figured I can always get DFH but I hadn’t seen this one on tap before. Came pretty dark in colour, decent off-white head that didn’t last long. Aroma is mild, every so slight sweetness to be found, a bit bready. Flavour was far less pronounced than I’d expected, and altogether a little boring. Good enough sweetness, spicing, hops. Average, and I’m surprised to note I preferred my previous libation, the Beau’s Bogwater. Go figure, didn’t see that one coming.

Info: 500ml bottle, 29/11-2007 joey_capps (1453), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Jun 30, 2008 Dark amber w/ light brown ring of foam. Sweet, spicy aroma of brown sugar & cinnamon w/ background of roasty malts. Sweet, syrupy feel. Well-balanced flavour w/ a bitter, peppery finish. mabel (1246), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 15, 2008 [1241-20080401] Tap. Toasted grains aroma has a bit of smoky malt. Clear, dark red amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Grainy alcoholic toasted malt flavour. Medium-full body seems undercarbonated. Excellent and drinkable.
(@ BeerBistro; Toronto, ON) yalnikim (630), Wellington, New Zealand Jun 6, 2008 Tasted 06/06/2008. 500ml bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits. Pours bright copper with an off-white disappearing head. Nice aroma of nutty malt, fruity tea and peppery herbs. Caramal and nutty malts carry an unexpectedly hoppy flavour - herbs, spice, and other things nice. A little old 200gsm papery note tells me the age. Long firmly bitter finish with lingering herbal note. Lollyish and bready malt notes come through later. Medium weight, light-medium carbonation. Really nice drop, pleasingly more bitter than I expected but just a little older and duller than I’d like it. I’m sure it is a cracker straight off cask. yespr (5611), Copenhagen O, Denmark Apr 23, 2008 50 cL bottle. Pours slight cloudy and deep amber with a lacing off-white head. Fruity and malt driven aroma. Flavour is roasted malt with a light acidic touch and a light toffee malt note. Fruity and bitter hoppy flavours following before a more breadish malt flavour re-conquers the palate. Ends medium dry and bitter. Nice and light malt spice English ale.
