Bottled, special.
1966 Strong Ale, the fourth in the series, is a bottle conditioned ale brewed to a strong ale recipe from 1966 when it was drunk during the celebration of England’s victory in the World Cup. This warming, dark ruby ale has a rich rounded flavour with notes of plum and a velvety warm caramel finish.

Bottle 0,50L. Clear, amber-red colour with small, creamy, light brown, long lasting head. Fruity aroma of blueberries, plums, raspberries, also biscuits and caramel. Taste is medium bitter with jam note as well as some woody flavor. Finish is medium bitter with a touch of alcohol, that warms up a little. Medium to full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. It’s good, but not as good as previous from Past Masters series...

From 0,5l bottle, BBD: 31. DEC 16 Pours hazy red to brown liquid with plenty of tiny particles, small to medium white creamy head, fell down almost immediately, Aroma: malty, caramel, nuts, light candied fruits and raisin, Taste: medium sweet, light bitter, dry, caramel, light fruity, raisins, at the beginning metallic off taste, than after warming up, bit better. Lacks more complexes tastes and character, Palate: medium body, sick texture, average carbonation, medium long caramel - malty aftertaste. Overall: acceptable, but could be better, only some caramel, malty body, hints of fruits and raisin, Fullers can made a better strong ale...

Bottle, 7.3%. Weak fruity aroma. Seemingly clear chestnut colour. Small off-white head. The flavour is sweet and fruity with a slightly spicy finish. The aftertaste is quite bitter and the finish is a little watery for the ABV.

500ml bottle shared with the wife on 30th Aug 2014, drank in The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham. Really enjoyed this semi-sweet malty brew and re-living 1966 again (was too young to drink then though). Lovely colour and texture, deep, dark amber, off-white crown and a smooth feel throughout the drink. Malty molasses vie with a mixed bag of dark fruits in both the nose and taste, the alcohol well hidden within the flavours. A very good beer and one i would gladly have again and again.
