COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled; Special - Past Masters series.
Note: Prior to the official release in bottle of Past Masters Double Stout in 2011, the beer was available as a special at several beer festivals but was badged as Fuller’s Imperial Stout. It has not been available in cask format, or under this name since the bottle release. The 10.7% Fullers Imperial Stout released in 2013 is an entirely different beer.

Double Stout is the second in the series, brewed to a recipe from 4th August 1893 – a time when ’stout’ meant ’strong’. Its signature ingredient is Plumage Archer barley, carefully malted and kilned using 19th Century methods. Dark, brown and creamy this beer is brewed to 7.4% ABV and balances a rich fruity aroma with smoky, bittersweet chocolate notes.

Countbeer (5060) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - AUG 23, 2011
Bottle: Medium pretty vast brown head on top of a black beer. Smell espresso, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and liquorice. Taste espresso, dark chocolate, roasted malts and barleys, coffee, lots of dark fruits, some sweets, hint of liquorice. Pretty well balanced. Nice afertaste of dark chocolate, Low carbo, medium to full body, soft mouthfeel and a light watery/creamy texture. Pretty much of a easy drinkable beer. Nice.

Yes, 4,5 is a pretty high score for a beer. For any beer. This beer is just marvelous. Past Masters, to hell with Internet, airplanes and pop music, call me romantic, whatever, send me back to the London of 1893 please. The robust aroma contains dark chocolate, dried cranberry, where an inmense but - in my eyes- well balanced bitterness awaits till the first gulp. Long lasting fruity notes. I wish this came in an imperial pint, instead of this mainland poor 500ml.

Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Great Baltic Adventure)
7 Lovely rich roast. A touch smokey and even hammy.
4+ Very dark, brief loose head.
7+ Beautifully balanced, lovely sweet rich roast.
4+ Super soft palate, smooth and just a little slick. Carbonation low. Super mellow roast finish.
16 Band on English stout. No hint of alcohol, the kind of think you’d like to session.

Near black with a small off-white head. Aroma of toffee, bicuit and dried fruit. Sweet and full bodied with toffee and biscuit flavours mostly. Like the London Porter, a very elegant dark beer

Cask handpull, Derby Summer BF 2011. Obsidian, no light showing. Fat tan collar. Saliva-prompting nose deep with sherried booze, jam set on fire, flambeed fruit cake, espresso weakly sprinkled with chocolate. A hell of an aroma. Deep, pungent, mellow taste mad with red apple (barbecued), mocha, charred pistachio. I’m a bit suspicious of Fullers but all credit to them, this is an outstanding stout up there with some of the best strong UK stouts I’ve tasted and my joint Beer of The Festival.

Sampled at Copenhagen Beer Festival 2011. Cask. Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a weak offwhite head. The aroma is malt, roasted, licorice and coffee. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness. Overall a good beer.
