First seen as a one-off cask release at Ealing beer festival in July 2012. Released in bottles in August 2012.
The third beer in the Past Masters series was first brewed on Thursday, September 10th 1931. The origins of the Old Burton style have changed over the course of the 20th Century, but this version is brewed to the authentic recipe - a true recreation of a wonderful long-lost beer. A rich, golden ale with a big malt character and an incredible balance of sweetness and warmth on the palate.

Kita (1232) - Koper, SLOVENIA - NOV 7, 2013
Bottled, 0.50l. Clear ruby brown color with large creamy tan-like head and normal visible carbonation. Aroma of heavy toasted malt, caramel, toffee, dried fruits, light herbal hops, mild alcohol and light yeast. Taste starts sweet and rich malty with lightly burnt sugars, following is refreshing rich fruity with presence of raisins and prunes, mouthfeel is very warming, while finish is moderate bitter. Full body, oilsy texture and average carbonation in palate. Tasty winter warmer...

danlo (1348) - Darlington, Durham, ENGLAND - OCT 31, 2013
500ml bottle. Clear dark golden-brown amber colour, frothy off-white foam head leaving alittle lacing and aroma is deep malt, yeasty, dried fruits. Taste is malty, toffee with a spicy hop tang and some dark fruit earthy and nutty notes. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, warming dry spicy hop finish. Quite drinkable.

Beese (2560) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 30, 2013
Bottle from the Union Tavern, London. Poured a clear, dark amber with a thin off white head. Alcohol on the aroma with sweet molasses and fruit cake. Thick, warming mouth feel. Flavours of spice, orange rind and dried fruit. Finishes with bitter resin, pine and cinnamon and wholemeal bread. Very nice, but XX Stout is still the best of the series.

ComradeK (1058) - The Vale of Dundas, AUSTRALIA - OCT 24, 2013
500ml bottle. Pours a clear burnished ruby, with a medium off-white head, which lasts reasonably well and leaves decent lacing. Rich toffee and savoury malt notes, dried fruits and spicy hops make up the aroma. Spicy hops up front lead into savoury, nutty malt and buttered toast in the mid-palate. Dried fruits and spicy hops combine to give it a dry finish. This is a rich, savoury English strong ale, very satisfying indeed.

Clear red amber appearance with medium and lasting head. Nutty and mild spicy aroma, semi sweet and bitter finish makes it very well rounded English Strong Ale.

Bottle @ Home. Pale brown, a trifle insipid looking. Light aroma off wood, chocolate cherries, fleeting astringency. Sweet and warming, stays sweet all the way to the finish, where the bitter edges come up a bit. Fulfilling and very drinkable for the ABV.

Sweet malt bomb. Classic English strong I guess... After my love affair with the 1848 I expected more hops and more all over really. I wouldnít call it thin, just totally malt driven, and a bit one-dimensional. Nice after dinner beer

Bottle. A very clear mahogeny color w/ a little off-white head. Aroma is a ton of malt! Some earthy spices as well, quite nice actually. Definitely some warmth in the mouth. This is a malt bomb as advertised. Caramel, warm spices, heavy, wet rye, some fruit sweetness - both dark and lighter fruits. Hardly any hops to balance all this malt. An okay brew, but nothing great, Iíd have to say. Too sweet. Not the freshest bottle either.
