Bottle Conditioned.
The second in the series, this Vintage Ale was based on a Champion theme with the addition of Champion Alexis malt and Champion Northdown aroma hops. The result is a sweet, warming, creamy ale that is beautifully balanced.

Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting, London. A massive thanks to Kenneth for sharing what is surely one of the most sought-after Fullerís beers around. Pours foggy, ruby-gold with a creamy, off-white head. dary caramel nose, some paper, definitely signs of oxidation, some dates and other rich, dried fruits. Medium sweet flavor with dusty brown sugar, bread, some leathery fruits, subtle cardboard coming through. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Mild dryness at the end, with dusty and toasty malts, some figs, faint cocoa, bread. Certainly a bit of oxidation has taken place, but there is still a great amount of rich, fruity character and soulful nuance to this beer.

Bottled: Clear amber coloured. Beige medium sized head. Vineous, fruity and light alcaholic aroma. Almonds, sweetness and some light port notes in the flavour. Has a light alcaholsweetness in the end. Quite like this.

Bottle @ the Falling Rock poured a clear reddish copper with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of honey, carmel, toffee, spice, light orange and a hint of vinous notes. Palate was medium bodied, smooth and slightly warming. Flavors of carmel, honey, light orange, light spice and light toffee with a smooth warming bittersweet finish.

Bottle... VBWT2008... Cloudy, caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, white head. Aged with grace! Toffee nose is enhanced by fuzzy fruit and vinous esters with just a hint of a smoke phenol. Full-bodied, but dry with light carbonation. Sweet, vinous malts. Barely hopped, but adequately bitter. Bittersweet, vinous finish. TheCheeseMan bringeth!

Tasted as part of a vertical tasting that included the í98, í99, í00, í01 and í03 (thanks Eyedrinkale!). Bottle # 38772. Poured a darker, cloudy amber color with a small tan head. Aromas and tastes of caramel, toffee, raisins and plums. Very light spices. Smell was also a little musty. This one seemed past it prime and on the decline.

Bottle. Imbibed 2008. Red, purple, brown with a small head. Aromas are bready and yeasty with soft berries and bubblegum. Some raisins and chocolate, too. Flavours are sweet caramel and toffee malts with chocolate and raisins. Smooth, rich and vinous with warming alcohol. Very peppery on the finish. Very good.

MartinT (8135) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 17, 2005
7-year-old bottle:

The Lure:
Caramel-covered cherries and maple syrup on waffles with a touch of port make quite a hedonistic breakfast. Peaches, citrusy and grassy hops and freshly-turned earth blow in from the open window.

The Festivities:
A glass of port wine, lawnmower clippings and a bouquet of flowers on the table. A drop of cream on a bowl of assorted berries.

Transcendence:
Still a hearty, fulfilling meal after all those years.

chriso (7428) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2006
Bottle, consumed in May 2006. A bit over the top Iíd say. Oxidation is apparent. Liquorice comes through on the palate and the depth of fruit seems to have receded. This leaves something woody, a touch harsh and sweet at the same time. Should have perhaps drunk this earlier but I was hanging on to it for a suitable occasion to share with the Danes.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2012 Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting (even though itís not categorized one), August 2012. Many thanks to Ken for busting out this rarity! It pours hazy mahogany brown, with a thin off-white film. The nose is date, plum, prune, raisin, fig, caramel, light spice and old wood. The taste is nut, caramel, wood, earth, light spice, leather, cherry, raisin and chewy malt, with a smooth finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Probably past its prime, but nevertheless itís smooth, mellow and tasty.
