The second in the series, this Vintage Ale was based on a Champion theme with the addition of Champion Alexis malt and Champion Northdown aroma hops. The result is a sweet, warming, creamy ale that is beautifully balanced.

Reddish brown and wonderfully complex with a stunning structure, this beer is pure magic and a perfect example of what Fullerís can produce as a leading brewery. Fruit, plum bitter with strong robust delicious elegance and depth. Fantastic.

Red-brown-orange. Fruity aroma with notes of bread, chocolate, alcohol, raisins and grapes. Fruity flavor with notes of chocolate, roasted malt and alcohol. Hoppy ending.

Pours a dark but clear amber. Great aroma as it warms...sweet malts and cara-toffee notes. Flavor is similar with lotsa sweet caramel maltiness, and a tad of hop presence and a nice alcohol kick. While not thin...itís not as full bodied as I wouldíve liked...still, a great ale---aged pretty damn well.

Clear, deep amber.Decent head and lace. Sweet scottish like malt toasty nose. Full bodied, thick, syrupy and sweet mouthfeel, toffee and caramel palate, maybe a biscuity/toasty character as well...damn tasty and smooth. Alcohol hits and then warms the stomach. Disgustingly drinkable, wish i knew the alcohol content. I havent had it in awhile, but this reminds me of Anchor Foghorn. Fruity tones are more evident as the beer warms a bit and the beer clouds up after you get all the goodies from the bottom..strong and satisfying.

This is a good English Strong Ale. Caramel, earthy wood, and malt flavors. Finishes clean, smooth, and warming.

Bottle no. 14221. Pours a clear copper color with an excellent off white head and lacing. Mineral/earthy, grass, and malt in the nose. Pleasant earthy malt profile in the flavor with notes of leather and caramel as well. Good beer.

Bottle#38344.Aroma of sweet malt and alcohol. A little caramel in there also.First sip brings a huge creamy mouthfeel. Malt is dominant with just enough hops to balance. Sweet aftertaste.Alcohol is very evident for an 8.5 abv.

Sampled in 2006. Dark red in color. Plums and sweet maltyness. Fairly oxidised. A little metallic.

11/12/03. Poured out of 16 oz. bottle, enjoyed in a tasting at Hi-Time Wine Cellars 11/12/03. Very thin, cream-colored head. Lightly hazy amber body with beautiful lacing; terrific appearance on this beast. Nose follows with more of the same-- very rich with malts, oak, almost a bourbon or cognac maltiness, some sweetness of fresh honeycomb, and a little dustiness from the aging. Very elegant. Flavor is then a bit of a letdown, bitterly woody and a little off-putting with its muted sweetness-- it seems like the malts haven't aged as elegantly as we'd have liked, giving off sort of a candy corn sweetness with a bit of an alcohol undercurrent. Finish is dry and very long, leathery and nicely mellow, once again very pleasant but just like the initial flavor, it's not as elegant or delicious as the nose and appearance promise. A mild disappointment for me.

Nice head and adequate lacing. The aromas surprised me on this one as the floral character of the hops could still be detected. Good caramelization detected with a strong and not overpowering malt complexity. A couple layers in here in fact. Still a decent bitterness on the back end after all these years. Overall, one could find that this "lost a step" due to the extended aging, but really held up remarkably well considering. Very enjoyable.
