3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, - JUL 20, 2008
A Mes rate: Bottle at the Tom’s awesome Twickenham Brewery tasting. I’m not gonna rattle on about the vintage ale as we all know what it’s like. At ten years old this had mellowed and the ingredients had married really well. There was an odd minty note in the aroma and it was slightly oxidised in the mouth but other than that it’s still going pretty well even though it is nearing the end of it’s life.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Pyobon (567) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - OCT 9, 2010
Bottle (60,046) - thanks Duncan. Clear deep reddish brown with good persistent head. Aroma is hugely complex - sweet, cough drops, malt, spices. Medium body with beautiful velvety carbonation. Flavour is complex: fruity, candy (cough drops?), vinous with a good long rich finish which starts pleasantly bitter and evolves into a dark chocolate flavour. An awesome beer.

Stratford tasting @ Cletus house. Wow 1998 thanks nelson. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Oxidation is present, a malty apple pine and caramel seep through as the primary character, a bit ashy in the mouth with a dull fruity finish. Some darker plum and sugar notes. Good, given its age.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, fruit, apple, and light chocolate. It pours a slightly hazy amber with a moderate large bubbled off-white head. The flavor starts with caramel, light chocolate, and fruit. The finish has a hint of apple and oxidation. Light-medium bodied with a slightly thin mouthfeel and mild carbonation.

My last bottle, this one aged very nice.

WOW! Thanks Paiste2002 for this rare gem! Can’t imagine what this would taste like fresh but this is a true testament to age a beer. This was DELICIOUS! Aroma was perfect; Strong caramel with a hint of caramel malt. Pour was a nice murky dark gold with a one finger off white head. Taste was like an alcoholic Sugar Daddy with a rich malty aftertaste. I don’t have the patience to age a beer for over a year, but this beer has made me turn a corner. Thanks, Paiste2002!

Bottle. Imbibed 2008. Red, purple, brown with a small head. Aromas are bready and yeasty with soft berries and bubblegum. Some raisins and chocolate, too. Flavours are sweet caramel and toffee malts with chocolate and raisins. Smooth, rich and vinous with warming alcohol. Very peppery on the finish. Very good.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - JUL 7, 2008
Pours copper with a thin white ring around the edge of the glass. Smells of oak, earthy, some tea, touches of sweet malt. Tastes of toffee, some sugary hints, spicy, lots of earthiness. Unfortunately, this did not live up to the excellent 1997 bottle.
